the answer is easy if you think in 4 dimensions. If you are only thinking in 2 dimensions then it doesn't make any sense. When the third ant says there are two ant behind me then a certain amount of time has passed that allowed the third ant to get in front of ant # 1 and ant # 2?

Answer to original situation. Ants 1 and 2 are facing to the left. Ant 3 is facing to the right. <-1- <-2- -3->
