Oh but before I go, any thoughts about the negative impact internet shopping has had on small business? Funny I mention that and it's actually more detrimental to small business than Walmart is and the conversation turns to how clean the fucking toilets are and you expect me to maintain a serious tone????? For the most part folks here don't give a shit about the reality or facts, they just want to bitch and whine and have others pat them on the back for their "righteous indignation". What a load of bullshit. LOL
How does internet business affect smaller businesses? I'm actually curious, I've never heard that discussed.

Plus there really can't be any argument that each year more and more people shop online. That has to be making an impact to some degree.
18.9 billion in goods a services in Canada last year were online sales up 24% from 2010. That is a huge chunk of change when we are talking about disposable income being spent. Every dollar spent online means less in retail outlets. source: Stats Canada
Why are you so bothered that I mentioned that the walmarts by me are dirty and disgusting? Are you a huge shareholder of walmart or something? I mean, why do you care? I mentioned that first I don't shop there because I can get higher quality products at target (when I need that type of store) or produce, etc locally at famer's markets. I also stated that I don't like the quality of products that walmart sells...and yes, I mentioned that the ones near me have disgusting bathrooms. If I am going to take my kids shopping somewhere and possibly have to go in there and change diapers, I don't want there to be shit and blood on the floor. To me that IS serious. I will not shop somewhere that is that disgusting. The fact that me mentioning that bothers you so much is a bit odd... That said, I don't shop online. At amazon or any other large company online. And I DO support local businesses in my town. And I don't give a shit about anyone patting me on the back. I do what works for me and could give a shit what anyone else does or thinks.
the issue of a store being dirty comes down to four main things in order of influence; 1: the area and average income/educational level 2: the store manager and their personal attitudes/habits (#'s 1 &2 can be interchangeable) 3: the employees who for the most part get their work cues from the management team 4: the companies policies concerning such things. I can pretty much assure you Walmarts corporate policy is to have spotless restrooms with regular cleaning checks throughout the day. I'll bet if you went into one there is a good chance there will be a check off card somewhere for the employees to log when it gets cleaned. THAT IS CORPORATE POLICY IN ACTION now depending on how pro-active or lazy the manager is will determine how adamantly he enforces the corporate policy of regular checks. now if the manager enforces it, then responsibility then falls on the employee tasked with actually doing the work. all of which is compounded if the store is in a location that is "ghetto" for lack of a better term. So my issue with your particular gripe is that is has actually very little to do with Walmart as a corporation and everything to do with the actual people working in any particular store and it's customers. When I worked for a major national retail drug chain as a manager there was a store that you NEVER wanted to get transferred to. If you did it meant you pissed someone off and were running on borrowed time. It was located in the center of Hispanic gang owned territory. Girls would walk in, open make-up, try it on, then throw the package and shit on the floor. Gang-bangers would walk in, pick up cases of beer, flip you off and walk out. People would change their kids shitty diapers in the store and leave it on a shelf. The bathrooms...HA! toilets literally would get smashed or hopelessly clogged within 48 hours of installation. How do you expect anybody to deal with that type of customer base and keep the store tidy? Conversely I have also seen stores with strong managers that ran like clockwork and stayed clean in some pretty nasty areas. It really comes down to the store management team immediately. Ultimately it does flow upstream to whoever is supposed to oversee the store management work force. But for daily use, if the toilets are filthy, go bitch directly at the store manager, it's his fault.
I wasn't giving you any shit. I could care less who shops at walmart. For me though when there is a Target right beside it who's products I find to be better and for similar prices, it's an easy choice for ME. My main thing is I just think walmart's products are crap. Their toy section....crap compared to other stores w toy sections. Frozen food section--- not enough organic/health foods...produce at walmart...disgusting looking. Etc, etc., etc. And yea, the store that is disgusting that I was talking about... it's not really in the ghetto but ghetto people go there. Well, ghetto people and white trash combined... and lots of them ... it's a great freak show to go to that store.... so yea, I'm sure it's the customers that are disgusting but still the job of the employees to clean up. There is another walmart I've been to that's a bit further away that doesn't get nearly as many people that's not nearly as disgusting but in any case, when I think about the walmart closest to me I think of how gross it is.
I go there too. By the way my pantry looks between Costco and buying cases of health/organic/natural foods through the co-op @ my husband's work you'd think I was stocking up to start a restaurant. lol.
They pay a living wage to their employees without harming the company. That's good enough for me. Wish I had a' hundred n' forty two billion bucks so I could fuck people over. Man that would be power!!!! Can you spell IMMORAL??
I can ride a bike around there, shoot a basketball, and buy 128ounces of ketchup as a double pack for cheap. You can also say no to grocery carts and instead push around a small flat bed truck! probably the best thing about Costco is their return policy... they take back anything... had a roommate update his tv by taking it back... he was a pathological liar though...
I've never personally shopped at Costco but they're a great example of a large company with a nice profit margin who still manages to pay a fair wage and offer good benefits. Instead of expecting the government to subsidize their employees because they refuse to pay them a living wage, like other huge corporations.
Uhhmmm, may I interject something here, you also pay a membership fee to shop at Costco, so right there is an additional revenue stream and the expectation of higher service in general. Then let's add in that the majority of their sales are wholesale lots of goods, so their average dollar amount per sale is multiples of what it is in at Walmart. If you want to be fair about it and have a straight across the board comparison, compare Costco vs Sam's Club. I would also like to clarify something that I may not have been clear about at the beginning. I like the new Walmart Neighborhood Market and that is what my initial remarks were about. It is 95% foods like any supermarket and 5% bullshit dry goods that tie with Walmart. I avoid Walmart and Walgreen's like the plague, but because of the service and crowds, not because the family is wealthy.
Speaking of Walmart, does anyome ever get those funny links of Walmark....rl people? I don't go to Walmart anymore. The one here has deterioriated, and I am not happy there. I go to Target at the mall to buy things I used to buy at Walmart.....Walmart has the wrost grocery shelves...You used to get big jars of pickels there and some things.....but I cannot tke the place anymore...We have a new store called Ocean Lots here that is very good for types of things that Walmart sells....
