Vote: Barefoot!

Discussion in 'Barefoot' started by Deleted member 159087, Nov 4, 2014.

  1. Now that miid-term elections are here (ho-hum) and given all the silliness that goes with "politics as usual," we could write in a ballot amendment expressly allowing bare feet in stores.
    Nah....
    Most people would vote NO.
    Oh well.....

I would vote no...If I was an establishment...and someone got cut or hurt on something unforseen on the floor, I would not want to be held responsible....and leave your shoes, socks or slippers on in my house....there is no telling what you might step on or in......lol

    most people wouldn't vote anything.

i would hope something like that wouldn't pass though. i generally feel like if someone owns a business and wants to turn people away from giving him money, that should be his right.

Is my reply going to turn out to be one of those rhetorical questions?

Yeah, if people have the wrong kind of hat, or shirt, or no gloves, or black skin, should probably be the right of the business owner?

No... when you do business with the public you're no longer acting as a private individual, and don't have the rights of one.

That said, this would be a very bad idea, mostly just a great way to let a lot of people decide they hate barefooters - and a door to actually making it illegal, or something horrible and fascist like that.

Anything that makes those that want to feel separate from the mainstream feel less separate probably isn't going to be deep-down popular with such people. It's one of the paradoxes of life that 'individualists' often have a hankering to cling on to their cult/exclusive status even as they're railing against narrow-minded lack of acceptance.

i don't know, it seems like if a business owner chooses to turn away large groups of customers based on completely arbitrary reasons, they wouldn't be able to stay in business for very long anyway. but that's probably more idealistic than realistic.

This really, isn't new although seeing one do it could give them confidence they could do it too (but no way it would lead to all voters voting barefoot). One year I saw a woman get out of her car, walk across the asphalt parking lot no shoes on... whatever. I was there to vote and obviously I had no interest in her feet other than noticing she went to vote barefoot. Considering all one does is show their voting book with their name on it (no formal voter ID card), sign for the ballot, and then vote and return the ballot... done. I suppose the only issue would be if the voting location had elaborate light decorative carpet and the voter had dirty soles; otherwise, it's just floor anyway.
