I was given two Pioneer speakers, an amp, and a box of records. My friend has a record player in his storage locker that he is going to give me. I am so excited about this musical journey in which I am about to embark. I cannot wait to listen to full albums in my living room. I know nothing about vinyl, though..I don't even know how to properly hold or care for a record. And how do I stop my collection from getting out of control?
If you're really obsessive you can wear surgical gloves when you handle the record, and just hold the record at the edges. To keep the cost down and so as not to let your collection get out of hand, only buy very favourite cuts and special new releases that you think you simply must have. Collecting vinyl is great fun and you're helping new artists stay alive in a digital era where much new recorded music has little market value.
I don't do anything special to care for my records. They're just in a good spot. Whatever you do when building your collection: don't buy old boxes of random lps with the expectation of getting one rare/great record for cheap. It might be true, but unless you toss all others away this is how it gets out of control. I observed it with a friend's collection. I only buy my favs on vinyl
I have about 300 records Down in the cellar (basement to you guys ) all the Zeppelin ,loads of dylan springsteen , All kinds been giving them away lately cos people seem to want to keep things and I never play them I do have a turntable though
I purchase all of my music regardless of the format. I don't believe in illegal downloading, especially since I've started DJ'ing. How can I run a business with stolen music? There is no way to justify that.
Ged's advise was spot on. Also be sure to store the albums like you would a book in a bookcase - upright not laying flat. Several companies make brushes and solution you can use to clean the grooves on the vinyl. Here's an example... https://www.dak.com/product/carbon-fiber-anti-static-vinyl-record-care-system/ Have fun.
I have a shitty player, but it works. Every now and again I do vinyl nights, but it gets irritating turning it over every 3 or 4 songs.
I prefer house music, but if I DJ a wedding, I play whatever the bride wants. Nothing makes me happier than a bride saying "the music was PERFECT"
I've been into house music for a really long time. It's good to see someone interested in it. I like Deadmau5, Kaskade, John Digweed, and Dj Dan, but I like lots of other stuff too. As I said, I have been listening for a long time and my taste has changed or developed or whatever over the years. I also like Skrillex, Illenium, Madeon, etc. who are newer than some of those other names. Anyway... so cool! I'm happy for you! Go Dj!!
Here everbody and their mom is into house music it seems. Except me The biggest part of my music collection consists of mp3s listening and playing with your vinyl collection is great, but often i just wanna have a good (winamp ) playlist going on
I think it's becoming more prevalent throughout the world, but it occurs to me that perhaps Europeans were first on the scene. I think the first raves were in England or something, and around then there were warehouse parties in Chicago or something. I don't really think the order of events is all that important though. You're from the Netherlands, right? Or did I imagine that. I don't know where you are.
Yes, the pearl of civilisation And you're right, the Netherlands seems very important/influential in the development of house and also techno, and its all due to the rave scene that became big here in the 90s and started in the UK. I am even less into techno.
I watched Madeon open up for the opening act for lady gaga, back in 2010. That was before I even knew I wanted to be a DJ.
