what's your preference for a partner? the best fit sexually is obviously another versatile guy, but since not every guy you hook up with is versatile, do you prefer tops or bottoms? no preference? has a long-term relationship ever worked with a guy who wasn't versatile himself?

and do you yourself lean towards topping or bottoming, or have no preference?

i truly like it both ways, to fuck a man and to be fucked. i'd never want to settle for just one of those things. i've found that i tend to prefer bottoms to tops though, although sexually i don't think i lean towards topping more.

 

Being a total top, I am always on the lookout for total bottom guys or very versatile dudes who are happy to bottom for me but maybe topping other guys.

I have also come to believe that the matter of sexual compatibility still plays an important role in maintaining all kinds of gay relationships, despite the obvious shift towards versatility in gay men as promoted by the porn producing companies.

I simply do not find the idea of bottoming sexually appealing to me. So, I have never bottomed, and am fine with this.

Relatively very, very few guys suggested that they wanted to top me. So, I figured out that this was not really an issue.

Over the time, quite a few guys whom I knew as tops, started to bottom. And bottoming has kinda become a default, to some extent. This makes the tops on the fresh meat market even more desirable. So, I felt no urge to start considering doing something that I have never found appealing to me personally.

Although I would like to be more versatile, I prefer tops. There's something pleasurable about being taken by another man. To feel him pushing inside you as the sensation takes you to a place of complete euphoria. Personal preference.

 

I give & take I guess. Only done this once. I top the guy and it was so fantastic. Then I got on all four spread my cheeks for him to ride me. It was totally awesome.that happens several years ago. Look to top & bottom again.

The impression may be created by the fact that possibly, a majority happens to be either bttms or tops. Even versatile guys would sometimes fail to identify themselves as such in a typical NSA, hookup situation. The time and the circumstances may be limiting the scope of the action, so a guy goes for one thing, and moves on, leaving the other dude to believe that he was only a top or only a bottom.

A few guys out there prefer one specific sexual role, and tend to be using it as their MO.

A number of dudes will show some versatility for a specific guy, i.e. would rather top that dude, than be topped by him, say, because of the anatomy involved, or because he seems to be strongly preferring to bottom, or whatever.

I have come across a number of versatile tops, who generally prefer to top but will make exceptions under specific circumstances.

I doubt that any of the above is the genuine versatility MW is talking about.

I see no reason for red-flagging a guy because he says that he is either a top or a bottom (or a genuinely versatile dude who may be expecting reciprocation in practical terms). Guys are who they are. If they are upfront and honest about it, there is nothing to red-flag at all. If you do not like their preference/role/attitude feel free to move on.
