just thought should say, that because of this thread, i went to the library to pick up a few books on veganism, and have decided to go vegan within a week or so. i have been a vegetarian for a few years now. but i think veganism is a much better idea.

I have no doubt that it is a part of the destiny of the human race, in its gradual improvement, to leave off eating animals, as surely as the savage tribes have left off eating each other.... ~Henry David Thoreau

Anyone seen the new fast food nation movie?

Ironic how Thoreau wasn't a vegetarian.

Ironic how he realized the injustice he was contributing to.

Because it tastes good, and I want to. I'm not giving you a "decent argument" so you can argue about my choices with me. I don't give two shits if you think what I'm doing is wrong, and cruel. I eat meat because I can, and because I want to. And I would happily kill an animal so I can eat.

Thank you! I'm glad someone doesn't flame me for my own choices. You've shown more dignity in 1 post, than many have in hundreds.

I found it ironic that you were attempting to refute how that quote had been relevant. I feel that everyone should be entitled to their own opinions on things UNTIL another party is involved. If you decided that you wanted to drink a bottle of vodka- that is your choice and that is great. However, if you decided to shoot a turkey in front of me, I would absolutely stop you from doing so.

So you would take a bullet for a turkey? Do you look down on Vegetarian's in the same way as meat eaters?

i know this wasn't directed toward me, but personally, i think that in the given situation i could probably persuade myself to take a bullet for an animal. as a human in the American society, i have more rights than a turkey. if someone where to shoot me purposefully or accidentally, the judicial system would most likely award me a monetary value if not criminal prosecute the shooter. if a turkey was shot, and lived, he would only be awarded extreme pain, and a gaping wound that is susceptible to infection. the hunter would have to sit and wait for another turkey to walk by, never truly understanding what he has just done. were as by shooting me, the hunter would have to pay for what he had done, and maybe even learn something by my extreme actions. if nothing else, the hunter would learn never to go hunting with a vegetarian/vegan, haha. :)
