hi...saw your post and thought id tell y ou that my bf moved up to vegas a few month ago to go to UNLV...he's 21. he met most of his friends on the rugby team...just a thought. (you remind me of him, what with the Fear and Loathing and smokin' bowls comments). good luck out there!
Yeah, but they are all too busy throwing their money away in the casinos. I am a newbie to these forums, but a long time resident of this town. Cool site here though. So many different topics and discussions.
JohnStossell hasn't been back since he posted that. Most posts besides mine these days are from visitors, and them what "Used To live there" folks. I'm two years older than Ceasars Palace. in the same place.
IF? Of course I am in Vegas. I would not lie about that. I am at Bonanza and Bruce. My favorite pasttime is going to the free concerts at the Santa Fe and Boulder Station casinos. Also filming such shows. Santa Fe started their free concerts on Wednesday a few months back and the Boulder has had free concerts on Thursday for a few years now. I was hoping John Earl would bring back the Music on the Mountains concert series this year up at Lee Canyon, but I guess it was just not to be. I filmed all the concerts there a couple of years ago, then last years series was cancelled due to avalanche clean up. Other than that, I am glad the Sand Dollar lounge was saved just before it closed. I like going there when Scott Rhiner and the Moaning Blacksnakes play. They are the best local group in town, I think so anyway. Al Eck and the Shuffleaires are a good group as well. And of course, John Earl and his Boogieman band are good as well. Oh well, as you can see, I am a music enthusiast, and yes, I have lived here for more than 25 years. I started out living in your neck of the woods Matt, on Dorothy Ave., just across from the university. That was back in the late 70's early 80's. I still remember they had a great headshop on the corner of Maryland and Dorothy called the Wizards Lair. But that is long gone now. Now we have Mr. Bills and Diversity, and I guess they are ok. I also lived on Palora Ave close to Valley High School where I attended. I was in the next room when my psychology teacher, Clarence Piggot was shot and killed by Patrick Lizotte. That was in 1982. I used to work at Foxy's Casino and the El Rancho. Both are now long gone as well. Even the Holy Cow brewery, where Foxy's used to be, is now gone. Things come and go so quickly in this town. In the early 80's, I moved to Dorothy Ave, just off of St. Louis. And now, for the past 19 years, I have been on Bruce St., near Bonanza, just a few blocks from Cashman Field. At least I get many fireworks shows I can watch from my driveway. Hey, there is a fireworks show there this Friday evening. Well, that should be enough info to show you I am here, lol
I've eaten at Foxxys Firehouse! Pizza I believe it was. Used to love the nickle poker bank against the East wall. I been here since '61'. (3 months old then.)
I was a cage cashier at Foxy's Casino for the last two years before it closed. And I used to play the nickel poker machines against the East wall as well. Foxy's was actually a dive. It was owned by a Mr. Walzinger who also owned Ernie's Casino on Rancho Rd. before it closed a few years ago. Ernie's had one of the best and biggest prime rib's in town. As for Foxy's, it closed because Walzinger got caught skimming and he was reduced to a limited gaming license where he could not have more than 20 machines in the building. After that, he sold the place.
Last time I was in there, was around the time they got rid of the table games. What was it again? 1 Poker and 3 BJ tables? LoL!
Well, that was long ago, 1987 I think. I dont remember any poker tables. I think in the end there were two or three BJ tables and that was it. The one thing I will never forget is the bartender that used to work my shift. A little Japanese guy with the last name of Yamamoto. He was the laziest person. He did not want to serve anyone, and when someone ordered a mixed drink, he would put in a shot of Everclear(this is when it was 190 proof, or 95 percent pure grain alcohol) hoping that they would catch enough of a buzz so he did not have to serve them anymore. Talk about stupidity, the place got pretty rowdy and dangerous when he did this.
Gotta love KKLZ 96.3 classic rock radio station. They may not play the best music, but on Friday's, it is free beer Friday. The station gives away a free case of beer every hour to the 9th caller when prompted. I have won many times, and today, the day after my birthday, I did it again. What they actually give you is a gift card for Lee's Liquors valued at $23.66. There is a sticker on the front of the card that says it is to be used for Budweiser products only, but I just take that sticker off and use it for other things. I went and got my card and then went to Lee's and got myself a 24 bottle case of Becks beer for $16.99 and a bag of Lays potato chips. And I still have $5.05 left on the gift card. Oh yeah, I also got a $20 gift certificate for Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant. I tell you, nothing tastes better than free beer and free food. This makes for a nice birthday present for me. WOOHOO
Happy B-Day Brother! I don't have a radio these days. But my PC has almost everything I listen to on it. I'm not sure, but, didn't Sr. Mr. Lee have a restaraunt over in the Commercial Center on Sahara? My older brother worked there long ago. You and I would have been around 7 or 8 yrs old. Then, on Charleston between Maryland & Bruce, there was "Tiny Tim's" Slot car palace.
I was not aware that Mr Lee was a restaurant owner. And I dont remember Tiny Tim's. But hey, thanks for the Happy B-Day. That's very kind of you. :<))
I'm not certain it was THAT Mr. Lee. Tiny Tims was a Slot car track where you could rent or run your own 1/25 scale Slot cars on one of three tracks against other people. They also sold parts and whole cars. Load of fun. There was this chinese place in the northwest corner of the commercial center on Sahara. It was called Mr. Lee's Chinese Kitchen. BEST fried rice in town! But that was many, many years ago. I talk about all this stuff, for our visitors here in the Nevada forum. Trivia question for anyone who wants to try... Was it a man or a woman who designed and built the famous "Welcome To Las Vegas" sign I use for an avatar? <--- Over and UP from here.
I am just going to take a wild guess, but could it have been Howard Hughes that designed that sign? I know where the sign is, out on LV Blvd south of town. I have a question though. How do you ad your own personal avatar. All I saw was the options that the forum supplies. I cant find how to add your own custom avatar.
To upload and use your own, you need to be a "Supporter". A donation to the site of $10 a year is usualy enough. They can be changed on your user control panel. It was a woman who designed and built that sign. It is in the middle of Las Vegas Blvd. (AKA The Strip) in front of a place called the Klondike hotel/casino.
Only if'n you're from Kentucky brother. But if you ever have lunch @ carnegie deli at Mirage, ASK for Emily's station and introduce urself!
