I meant everyone wins in eating what they want. When I visit my mother and she makes her dinner. I dont scowl across the table when she takes a bite of her steak or chicken, or whatever. It what she wants, and it makes her happy. But I dont sit there and repeat facts about what is pumped into the animals, and how they suffer, or how itll just rot in her colon anyway. She has started eating healthier tho, since Ive become veggie. And Im most happy about that. I do think of the animals you know. And I am part of an animals rights org. But as far as becoming veggie, it was mostly for health issues, not the animals. That part came after. Peace, Jessica
seriously wtf, i have been arguing for the same thing for how many posts? it appears your contempt for omnis has messed with your brain. Here, eat some meat, it helps brain developtment.
where did i put down veggies? hello! i have said that they are equal lifestyles! Its self righteous veggies/vegans in this forum that have been putting down a lifestyle......
btw, Meat Critical to Human Evolution, Study Finds UC California Daily June 18, 1999 By Chelsea O'Callaghan Contributing Writer The addition of meat into our early ancestors' diet was a crucial catalyst for human development and evolution, according to a new study done by UC Berkeley anthropology Professor Katharine Milton. The inclusion of highly-nutritional meat into the diets of ancient humans contributed to the evolution of human development, especially the development of the brain, Milton said. "Without meat, it's unlikely that proto-humans could have secured enough energy and nutrition from the plants available in their African environment at that time to evolve into the active, sociable, intelligent creatures they became," Milton said in a statement. Milton and Montegue Demment, a UC Davis professor, conducted the first study on the digestive physiology of the common chimpanzee. The scientists then compared their results with information about the human digestive process. "Our research showed that humans and chimpanzees digest food similarly," said Milton. Unlike the gorilla and orangutan, which are more sedentary animals and rely on low-energy foods, the chimpanzee is an active primate that gathers food from various sources, explained Milton. Chimpanzees rely especially on foods from trees. Similarly, early humans actively sought out food sources in woodland or open savannas, where trees were particularly plentiful. But decreasing availability of such foods forced humans to seek alternative food sources. Since early humans had to diversify their diets to remain alive, they began including meat as a source of nutrients. By eating meat, early humans were able to sustain their lifestyle, which was active and social, but not to the extent of expending more energy than they took in through food, said Milton. "If they had followed the dietary route of gorillas and orangutangs, humans would have ended up as sluggish and unsocial apes," Milton added. High in essential nutrients, proteins and vitamins, the addition of meat into the diet of early humans allowed them to rely on other accessible plants for food. Wheat, seeds, corn and rice provided more variety in the early human's diet. Unfortunately, modern humans in developed countries have incorrectly evaluated the amount of meat the human body needs, said Milton. Modern humans eat far too much meat, she said. "Practically no one is eating well today," said Milton. "Their diet and their lifestyles are incompatible. People eat too many fats and sugars and lead sedentary lives." The diets of higher primates (other than humans), which are primarily vegetarian, are examples of healthy diets, she said. "Essentially, humans only need a small amount of meat to provide adequate levels of nutrients, but people have made meat into a staple in their diet, when it should simply complement it," said Milton. Modern society has developed knowledge and products that illustrate alternatives to meat. Such products give humans some of the same nutrients as meat, she added. "You just don't need a lot of meat, but you need some. In developed nations, there are so many ways to satisfy nutrient needs," said Milton. However, Milton warned, it is necessary to educate oneself on the subject, especially mothers interested in placing their children on vegetarian diets because children have unique requirements of nutrients and vitamins. Now, modern advances have allowed humans to live exclusively on a vegan lifestyle. To deny that meat helped men evolve into what we are, is foolish and down right inaccurate.
I think you ought to have a look at this link: Especially the bit about baby boys and puberty http://www.t-mag.com/nation_articles/302poison.jsp
Thanks for the link, but Ive known for a while the anti-benefits of soy. I try and stay away from soy as much as possible now. But thanks again, it was a good article. Peace, Jessica
I would say you insulted us when you said that meat helps brain development. Yeah, madcow makes a person so creatitive and smart. Also, don't start posting articles saying omnioverism is good in a vegetarian forum, we don't want to hear it and we could flood you with just as many, more convincing reasosn to not eat meat. Even if meat was critical to evolution (which is very questionable) there is no reason why people should eat it in modern society, we will evolve with or without meat. I'm proud to say I do not followed the diet recomended by this obviously highly qualified ANTHROPOLOGIST. That person even admits that the great apes have a healthier diet. Did this diet expert also mention meat is also exceptionally high in pesticides and other nast chemicals? Appernetly they missed that. There is NO REASON to eat meat, stop trying to tell up that there is. Seriously, please leave the veggie forum, we don't want to hear your ignorant and hateful comments concerning omnioverism.
In fairness, he seems to be being a bit more open minded now in the other thread and seems to be a bit more willing to listen. I don't think he's just another troll, I think he's simply a bit defensive.
Well no, coz if he's open minded, then he'll be willing to accept rational criticism, so any 'propaganda' should easily be demonstrated as such. I don't think he's spreading propaganda just for the sake of it - I think these are his genuinely held beliefs. So if he approaches us in a spirit of open debate, without hostility, then there's no reason why we shouldn't be able to have a constructive dialogue. If nothing else, he may end up with a bit more respect for veggies, eh?
Megara posted a theory from some professor of teaching and then calls any other theory foolish and down right inaccurate.. He also said millions of animals die in turbines which is another theory that hasn't been proven. Here is a definition from dictionary.com: oápen-mindáed (pn-mndd) adj. Having or showing receptiveness to new and different ideas or the opinions of others. I don't understand why his behavior is encouraged by doctor atom. I like vegan babies though. They're cute. I think there are a lot of angry omnis on these boards that are just scared and want you to be scared too. They should stop eating meat and doing other things to cause hurt. Maybe they will be happy then.
When did i put down any other theories as inaccurate? and i am not trying to force ANYONE to eat anything they dont want too. As i said, i believe meat HELPED(Notice the PAST TENSE) develop the brain in early humans...as i said earlier.."MODERN ADVANCES have allowed us to eat WHAT WE WANT." People can be a vegan and have a very healthy lifestyle. People can be vegetarians and have a healthy lifstyle. Omnis can have a healthy lifestyle. As with my original point. People who get high and mighty on Why Omniverous life style/veggie lifestyle/vegan lifestyle are better are FOOLISH. Let people eat what they want and enjoy their own life! If you(or omnis) want to think they are moral superior, fine, do so in private and not attack people openly because they eat so. I have NOT attacked any vegan because they were a vegan. Only vegans who believe they are more "moral" than me.
Mabye, your not more "moral" (thats such a vague term) than me but you are much more wasteful than me. Think about all the water and food and fule you are wasting when you grow an animal for slaugher and eat it or eat dairy products. It takes about 10 calories of fossil fule to produce one calorie of food (animal products excluded).
Pay attention. I said in the other thread where he's been active. In that thread, he was actually being quite contrite and apologised for being confrontational. And I 'encourage' him because you don't change anyone's opinion by refusing to enter into a dialogue with them. If you don't change people's opinion, then they carry on eating meat. If they carry on eating meat, more animals die. Is it more important for us to maintain an exclusive little veggie club where we all pat each other on the back and congratulate each other on how righteous we are, or should we perhaps be more concerned with saving animals from suffering?
wasteful in terms of eating food? Probably. I have one life to live, and i am going to continue to eat what i enjoy whether thats tofu or a juicey steak.
Wooah congrats to you. I love babies Be sure to stop by the parenting forum here. There are some very sweet wise Mamas there. Oh and me sometimes, just because I like all things baby related and it's never too early to start planning. TTFN Sage
I was a vegetarian for 18 months yrs ago and during that time I got pregnant. My ex-husband was worried about the baby growing enough and being healthy. Well my son was born at home (also my choice) and weighed 8 pounds & 8 ounces. That son was also the only one who would eat tofu and any vegetarian food I gave him....along with the chemically man-made, fattening, disease causing junk his dad gave him. I have 7 kids total and 2 of the older ones have became vegetarian for their own reasons. They are healthy and both are pretty good cooks too.
I think it's a great idea that you would raise your baby vegan/veggie... And, it's really healthy anyway.. I wish my parents would've raised me that way.. It's harder for me to be vegan right now... I'm doing excellent as a veggie but I'm trying to convert to vegan.. I just sneak a peice of cheese here and there..
