It could well be an infected Bartholin's gland. These are glands at about (while lying on your back) 4:00 and 8:00 in your vagina. (But the pain can be "referred" anywhere in the vagina.) The pain often feels like burning or itching, or it can feel like very chapped lips, or it can be sharp. A good OBGYN can tell if the Bartholin's glands are infected and it can be treated.

No amount of lubrication can make the pain go away. Please see an OBGYN and let him or her know what they pain is like, and ask them to check your Bartholin's glands. I am betting this may be what this is. I've had them infected, it is no fun.

I use to have this problem but then I spent more time with foreplay... and I grew out of it... not literally though... ha

Foreplay won't cure an infected Bartholin's Gland.

It sometimes happens to me, and when it does it flippin hurts! Apparently it happens to a lot of women. There is an operation you can go through i think to get it sorted out, but most people don't go through with it and just put up with it.

    Blegh, horrible tearing...

Thank you for your contrabution. My girlfriend has been having a similar problem lately. She bleeds from her vagina everytime we have sex. We don't know why.

You never fail to crack me up with your dry sarcasm Iron Goth. I love that! Usually, only the English can master that skill to perfection.

    Back to the tear issue:
It's happened to me too a couple of times, when I haven't done it for a while.
And to look at it in a purely academic way, I'd say that the probability of a vaginal tear occuring during intercourse correlates with the frequency of intercourse and the friction between genitalia.

Frictional resistance to the relative motion of two solid objects is usually proportional to the force which presses the surfaces together as well as the roughness of the surfaces. The laws of physics show that the smoother the object - the less friction, which mean that lube might help to a certain degree. However, since you are very wet during intercourse you might be experience the forestages to a rare physical phenomena called "cold weld". This could be a scienetific breakthrough since it's never been achieved using organic material before. The original theory is this: If two pieces of flat metal are made progressively smoother, you will reach a point where the resistance to relative movement increases. If you make them very flat and smooth, and remove all surface contaminants in a vacuum, the smooth flat surfaces will actually adhere to each other, making what is called a "cold weld". Watch it with too much lube - You might get stuck together for eternity!

No, seriously, I think your doctor should take you seriously. Perhaps you automatically tense up when having sex, knowing that it might hurt you? I think that can cause an evil circle. Tense tissue is less elastic, and therefore tear more easily.
