and why the disbelief in the bible? You call it ancient, but Jesus was here on earth only 2000 years ago. In the scheme of time, that is not a long time..compared to say, a million years.

and I understand they do not worship it and they use it as a aid, but why do they need an aid to talk to god?

and you said that the cross represents God, which means you believe in the Trinity and the trinity is not scriptural.

but the cross is mans manifestation after Jesus, Jesus did not say "make a cross in remembrance of me"

So? Jesus didn't say to sing hymns, play pipe organs during worship, give sermons, engage in building projects, etc. I think Jesus would be pretty surprised (or shocked) at the development of modern Christianity. It's all "man's manifestation". But Jesus never said "Don't do anything unless I explicitly authorize it." Christianity has survived because it has adapted to changing conditions and cultural developments.

    To Lorna:

Not really, not that interested in investing much brain power into a fairly pointless conversation.. google will list a ton for you though.

Although one off the top of my head: "God"'s meant to be omniscient, but ironically he forgets to create man a woman for a while.. so some dude never got to satisfy his boner for a while.
And screw it, here's another one.. two, in fact: "God"'s also supposedly omnipotent, yet he took 7 days to create the world, as opposed to instantaneously.. and I'm not sure he had his priorities right either, since he created the roman calendar before the cosmos.. but I guess you could argue that because he's omnipotent, he exists outside the normal constraints of time and space and all that..

But hey, if someone takes those stories literally that's their tango, no need to hold it against them. Although to be fair I've done my fair share of christian beating, but they started it... catholic schools weren't fun. All that time spent in mass getting shitty little bread disc things that tasted like decomposing cardboard... they weren't even BIG. Did fuckall for munchies. Grateful for the wine though, that was needed on more than a few occasions..

I still can't help but think how many more trichomes could have been productively inhaled instead though.. /sigh

And I've only just realised how addicted I am to using "..." I've just removed about 20 sets of them in this short post.

I don't take the Bible literally because it was written by man, censored by man, and used as a tool for man to control the masses. I don't necessarily not belive in it, I just don't take everything literally. I was told by a Pastor once that the Bible isn't meant to be taken literally. That it's meant to be mean different things to different people. Each passage speaks to us differently. Your personal relationship with God is much more important than the approval of anyone else.

It's not a matter of need. I think you're reading too much into it.

The topic wasn't about what I believe. But even so, if I don't "believe" in the Bible what would it matter if it weren't scriptural?

Because God is not a tangible being. Humans might be able to relate to God better if he can be perceived in common concrete objects. The symbol of the cross humanizes the divine and makes it easier for us to understand.

    My opinion.

Everything's at dualisms, and the Nature is a copying of the genuine artifact at a repetition of it, but unlike for the existentialists, here and now to some extent out and out the ultimate genuine nature IS GOD.

but adam did have satisfying work, he was naming the animals

18Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him." 19Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. 20The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him.

and that depends on what a day is to God

Well, that does sound like it sucks and they should of been pushing bible knowledge, not shitty discs and wine to kids.

Partly, that is whats wrong with the Christian church, most all hypocrites who pick and choose what they want from the bible and go on teaching and celebrating the traditions of men.

Yes it was, but what men? The were kings, prophets, men who walked with Jesus, witnesses of Jesus..who else would you want to write it?

    ,
Think about this, you are saying that a Pastor once told you this..that Pastor is a man..was he well versed in the bible or was he covering up for his inability to understand it. He said "that it means different things to different people" Do you think when Jesus was teaching the crowds he did not want them all to understand him? Do you think he wanted them all to take what he said and understand it the way they wished? That is why after he would teach the apostles would take him to the side and ask for clarification, because they wanted a clear understanding of what he was teaching, it was some complex illustrations that Jesus used and some were getting it and some were not.
and I agree, our personal relationship with God is the most important..the bible says to love Jehovah, your God, with your whole heart and soul.

Your right, he is not a tangible being..but does not need an inanimate object between him and us. God is around us everywhere, in every creation. Look at everything that is not made by man. Its intricate design, its complexity. You will see God, the creator of it.

Do you see the circularity of your arguments? Idols are things that are worshiped as though they were god(s). If people don't worship the cross, but use it as a reminder of God, the cross isn't an idol. Just the opposite!
