Why would you hate something that reminds you of crucifixion, a barbaric ancient form of execution? I DON'T GET IT.
anyway, there is much conflict over whether Jesus was executed on a cross, the term Stauros, which is used in the bible can also mean "upright stake" which was the common form of execution method at the time.. Now, what do you have to say? I made this thread just to "hate" you are incorrect..it was to argue this point..that the use of the cross is idol worship and actually could be incorrect..check that, do some research, write a book, whatever
I prefer to pray to the electric chair, so I have an electric chair pendant that I wear around my neck. It's lightening bolts over the crucifix.
Age of Pisces? ~Also, I just found this today: From: http://www.christiananswersforthenewage.org/Articles_Pisean3.html ^I haven't read a fraction of that site yet. So please don't put me on board with everything it says. I just found it interesting, so far..
Why do we always come here. I guess we'll never know. It's like a kind of torture. To have to watch the show.
I?, and the World, there a multitude of sins hides, only the failures and lasting jealous of love perceive. And maybe the politicians who want to balance the budget. As Love hides a multitude of sins: Kierkegaard.
I don't really Was just pointing out that praying or kneeling to a crucifix.. may as well bow down to ol' sparky or the injection or a noose too. Nomsayin'?
yeah, I cant stay away anyway, if you are a Christian, then likely your a Christian that believes somewhat in the bible. If so, the bible says to warn against idols. The cross came to be after the bible was written, so that to me shows that the bible trumps the cross which could even be the incorrect instrument that Jesus Christ was executed on. These are a few, but there at least 50 more if you would like me to quote them..the bible warns against idols and the cross is an idol..that is my point Scriptures Psalm 31:6 I hate those who pay regard to worthless idols, but I trust in the Lord. Leviticus 26:1 “You shall not make idols for yourselves or erect an image or pillar, and you shall not set up a figured stone in your land to bow down to it, for I am the Lord your God. Revelation 9:20-21 The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshiping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk, nor did they repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts. 1 Corinthians 12:2 You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. Daniel 3:18 But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.” Acts 17:22-31 So Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: “Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription, ‘To the unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place,
There are thousands of contradictions in the bible It wasn't written by one person, or in one time, or even in the same area, so it makes sense as to why it contradicts itself. I'll admit Christianity doesn't make much sense, at least when taken literally, but hey.. the potential's there, and a lot of people find comfort in it.
I'm a Christian who has very little belief in the Bible. There is good stuff in it as well as bad stuff, and I take it with a grain of salt. I don't think an ancient book can tell you how to live your life. However, it's my understanding that when idolatry is talked aabout in the Bible they are talking about false idols. Since the cross represents God himself I don't think there is an issue there. And there is a difference between worshiping something and using something as a tool of worship. When the cross is used in the Church they aren't worshiping the cross itself but using it as a visual aide while worshiping God.
How many Christians you know worship the cross? If they did, they'd be committing idolatry. If they regard it as just a symbol to remind them of Christ's suffering and death, then it's not an idol. Early Christians didn't use the cross as a symbol, because their emphasis was on Christ as risen to a new life. The cross didn't become a univerally recognized symbol of Christianity until the fourth century. Crucifixes, which add the image of Jesus to the cross, raise the related issue of "graven images", but I think it's silly to interpret the OT literally on that matter. Too bad people like to fight about these issues instead of concerning themselves with peace, love and understanding, which are the essence of Jesus' teachings.
I get this.. I am not understanding the glorifying of this symbol. If my son was shot with a gun, I surely would not wear the gun around my neck as a symbol of how he was killed.
