the military provided everything you take for granted so shut your face kid, even if they are just getting oil, whos consuming that oil? YOU

whats to stop another country or a group of people from just walking in and destroying your whole town, what insures your rights and freedoms(which you take for granted and use to attack the people who helped protect the rights you have)

and this is what you said , "They're willingly putting they're life on the line for nothing"
"I don't see any good reason anyone would willingly join the military"

    man, I love being ungrateful.

I can sit here in my big warm american house, at my laptop, typing on some dumb forum and listening to Autechre because I don't have anything more pressing to worry about and take it all for granted and disrespect everything that allowed me to have this. no internal conflict or feeling of hypocrisy here.

Which simply confirms what we all know here, that you are the consumate loser.

    I actually don't use gas... I don't drive a car, but a bike. I hate the things.
There is no reason for what they're doing. The Iraq war is only for profit and it needs to end.

by this reasoning you could justify almost anything...

if i dare to use the tools of the modern world of a democratic society i would have no right to dare question the motives and actions of someone clearly guilty of war crimes.

i agree that video is some really sick shit! let me ask this though. is that video "real"? could it be staged and faked? the saying goes: "seeing is beliving." yet, we do know that most of the time what we belive, is not what we really see. i have no doubt, that that soldier is quite fucked up in the head! this is my question though... WHERE IS HIS GOD DAMM C.O.? that soldier should have been relived of duty before he did that shit. somewhere the system broke down, and i know where too. this whole farce of a war has been managed like shit! this whole war has been about scapegoating! that soldier will be scapegoated because he kill that puppy, yet his c.o and those all the way up into the white house, will be get off the hook for not talking action to stop him before this happen! and, that my friends is the real tragedy of this god forsaken war!

Most people that I really deeply respect and admire- in terms of personal ethics, compassion, and generosity- have served in the military. I've never served, but it really pisses me off when people label the people I know best and respect most as nothing more than "killers."

    However...

the military provided everything you take for granted

Simply not true. Military force sometimes is sometimes required (though only rarely) for self-defense, but they provide nothing. In fact, they take away nearly all resources that our society would have available for the common good.

A few decades ago, a famous conservative Republican (back when conservative republicans weren't all traitorous pricks who should be hung by the neck until dead) once said that war only exists today for profit, not for national security. That's certainly true today. He sure knew his friends and followers.

    so shut your face kid

And sometimes (rarely) those who serve on "our side" are actually our most dangerous enemies, foreign-minded people who don't even believe in free speech. John McCain, for instance.

even if they are just getting oil, whos consuming that oil? YOU

Everyone consumes oil because we have to eat, and oil-powered equipment is required for its production and transportation (as just one example). But not all of us consume equal amounts. Some of us don't own cars, and walk to/from work.

whats to stop another country or a group of people from just walking in and destroying your whole town

The oceans, and America's once-famous reputation for tolerance and kindness. Even after al-Qaeda "declared war" on the "free" world, they have been unable to hit us with any significant force at all. Even 9/11 was nothing, more people died of cancer that day.

, what insures your rights and freedoms(which you take for granted and use to attack the people who helped protect the rights you have)

For me, it's my my locked door, my gun, and my willingness to use it if necessary.

and this is what you said , "They're willingly putting they're life on the line for nothing" "I don't see any good reason anyone would willingly join the military"

The war vets I know would quietly accept the fact that not everyone will appreciate them. They seem to actually be proud of the fact that people at home are so safe that their personal safety really can be taken for granted.

We could remove all our troops from all nations worldwide, cut military spending to 1/100 what it is today, and no nation on earth would have a chance in hell against us. Ever.

-you obviously don't know anything about the American military, cutting the budget to 1/100 of what it is now would destroy the military, we would have to us 60year old Russian weapons just like China....(who uses more than 50billion btw and they would easily have a greater military with their rapid modernization)

-if there are disputes or struggles vs natural resources who is going to get them?the puny american military would just be run over and would have no way of responding, then what would power your house?

-okay you and your one weapon is going to stop an invading force, good luck
-okay so if we didnt go into afghanistan (iraq was just dumb) and sat back and didnt even think about them you think there wouldn't have been any more?(not to mention the many planned attacks that have been discovered)

-other countries don't have a navy right? and with the 1/100th of the budget who could even stop them?

-there were actually more deaths on 9/11 than from cancer so get your facts straight and stop trying to diminish what happened(about 1600 a day from cancer)

-saying that some of us don't own cars is so stupid, thats only a small part of the energy/oil/petroleum based products we consume

You can't be that stupid. Then again... I'll bring it down to a kindergarten level for you OK? Electricity just doesn't magically come out of the wall outlet. It is made in something called a power plant. OK now, stay with me here.. The power plant uses heat to boil water and create steam. The steam then passes through turbine fins which spin, generating electricity. Guess what they use to create the fire that boils the water?? OK listen very closely now... OIL!

No matter how you slice it, YOU use oil every single day. Have any plastic goods, made from petroleum. Asphalt you ride that bicycle on, oil again. Grease in the axle of that bicycle, you guessed it, oil. Oh and guess what if you decide to go back into the 18th century and light you home with candle, sorry to break your little heart but paraffin wax is made from, oh no how could it be?? OIL!

Sorry to break your heart honey, but do a little research next time.

You're trying so hard to justify what that soldier did... I don't buy any more oil products than I NEED. I think the only pure oil product I buy is vegetable oil every once and a while. I'm boycotting cars, the GAS GUZLERS. I'm not just boycotting big ol' Hummers, but the whole lot of them. I believe there should be more use of efficient public transportation than for one man to drive a car big enough to hold eight! I walk to work, walk home. I walk wherever I need to go. I carpool for long distances.
    What are YOU doing?

    can not anything be justified?

and I have the right to question anything I want, even institutions that have supposedly benefitted me. that's like saying someone who doesn't vote has no right to question the president.

Me: "Even 9/11 was nothing, more people died of cancer that day."

    Someone replied
"-there were actually more deaths on 9/11 than from cancer so get your facts straight"

    Well let's see.

"Dec. 17, 2007 -- The American Cancer Society today predicted that worldwide in 2007, more than 12 million people will be diagnosed with cancer and 7.6 million will die of cancer."
    Sources: http://www.webmd.com/cancer/news/20071217/2007-world-cancer-deaths-top-7-million
    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,317087,00.html

Want me to cite more sources? There are a few hundred thousand other sources confirming it.

7600000/365 = 20,822 cancer deaths per day. A number far several times greater than the number killed on 9/11, even counting the 400+ killed by Giuliani's screwup.

Thunderstorms kill more people every year than terrorism.

-if there are disputes or struggles vs natural resources who is going to get them?the puny american military would just be run over and would have no way of responding, then what would power your house?

No country on earth even remotely stands a chance in hell of coming over here and stealing our natural resources, so I have no idea what you're talking about.

I don't buy any more oil products than I NEED.

I think that's the key. Like I said, we all use oil, but we all have a huge degree of control over how much of it we use. If you buy local products by local companies, walk/bike to work, and so forth, you've done what you can.

It is somewhat troublesome that SUVs have become a status symbol, a symbol which proclaims "I have money to burn, and to prove it, I'm showing you right now that I'm burning it." I have nothing against people who buy large vehicles because they need and use 'em, and don't dislike SUVs in general.

thats world wide not in the U.S... that those kinda stats are just stupid
if we banned chairs we could essentially stop many 9/11 every year! what about cars... lets ban those too... we could save so many! trying to present worldwide stats to diminish a tragedy is really just an insult to what happened on 9/11

and of course you are a military expert, and in the event of an "energy war" with the us military budget cut down to 1/100 of its current size we would stand a great chance!
