U.S. retaliates with B-1B bombers and precision weapons against Iran-backed militias (msn.com)

They're not going into any details, but using cruise missiles, means they were going after the officers and specific hardware. No country in the world has these planes, which can avoid almost any radar, and were made for just this kind of thing. Precision strikes on any target that might attempt to shoot down an ordinary airplane.

Cruise missiles move at 800mph, faster than sound, a hundred feet off the ground, and can go right through an open door. By the time you hear them, they're gone already, or you are. This is a demonstration of power, that makes it clear the US can wipe out all of Iran, in a matter of days. Destroying their air defenses, electricity, communications, etc. Very likely, even shooting down their nuclear missiles.

The US will hit Iran's oil infrastructure first.

Hitting Iran in the pocket first, is where it will hurt the most. LOL

The US isn't after money, oil, or whatever. In Afghanistan, they systematically killed all the roosters, well over 400. They want their religious leaders running the country, and would kill them all right now, except it looks bad. Many who went there, describe Afghanistan as cave men, with cellphones and rocket launchers. Yet, when they routed the US and forced us out of the country, they paused to give us time to retreat, because they know its just money, and not a vendetta. The Russians, they chased all the way over the boarder, with no mercy, because they know scum bags too. So, the US has the choice of destroying their military, which is not hard to do, but simple divide and conquer works, without actually having to even think about invading.

Iran is huge, and has modern tech, and their military will inevitably get the idea, they need new roosters, and have to kill their leaders themselves, or just be ready to be stomped on. When the US invaded Iraq, the republican guard ran with their tails between their legs, because they're all just bullies. Know your bullies, and you know the people. They literally can't organize any better, requiring a Singularity to change the economy forever.

I have to wonder how far this will escalate. Will we see the entire Middle East lit up?

There's a difference between Iran-backed militias and Iran itself. The targets were in Syria and Iraq.
Not in Iran, for the obvious and stated reason that they don't want the war to engulf the whole Middle East.

The issue is who controls the seven seas. Iran has no hope, China has high hopes, and Russia is insane, so your guess is as good as any other.

Iran and Israel are exchanging fire this week. The US provided anti-missle coverage for Israel.

    Iranian munitions were not effective.

Iranian proxies are attacking shipping in the Red Sea.

Do we have a dog in this fight?
The "intelligence" complex has interests and agendas but they're top secret, and on a need-to-know basis. We can only pontificate.

Different people favor different sides, depending on who they associate with. Though it's impossible to objectively analyze all aspects of all sides, that doesn't stop people with little to do from taking up signs and chanting, hoping to fit in. Nonetheless, it appears evident who the instigators are. And like most aggressors, pull out the victim card when those they've been victimizing get fed up and go off on them.

The US is bound by contractual agreement to support and aid specific nations. They're not attacking, they're defending. Defensive moves can look like offensive moves to the uninitiated.

This is different from investing in the other current conflict where there's no contractual agreement to support, and all indications seem to point to preserving a money laundering scheme which effectively transfers wealth from those paying their fair share to those calling the shots. But there's always the remote possibility that it may not be exactly what it looks like. The elites are arrogant because they're very crafty and adept at pulling the wool over people's eyes.

There have been more than 3000 years
War in the Middle East, since the ancient Roman and Iranian Empires.
American army as well as many other abilities is b
Number one in the world, so , the American foreign policies should always tacking care of the freedom and democracy of many other countries to defend nations against any other dictator governments. But ,unfortunately it looks like the foreign policies not only is not useful in Middle East but also it is so negative particularly during the last 50 years after the religious government and Taleban fenatic group became in power in Iran and Afghanistan.
