Died the other day aged 88. About the only woman I can think of to have been a successful sci-fi writer. She was also an anarcho femminist icon I suppose - 'The Left Hand of Darkness' and 'City of Illusions' were probably my favorites of her books. An interesting factlet is that as well as sharing the middle initial 'K' with Philip K Dick, the two attended the same school at the same time but never met until later when both were successful writers. Ursula K Le Guin, sci-fi and fantasy author, dies aged 88
Doris Lessing's "Canopus In Archives" is a good, serious Sci-Fi series, particularly the first volume "Shikasta."
I was expecting to be corrected when I said 'the only one' - 'one of a very few' might have been better.
She was an incredible human being! CrimethInc. : We Will Remember Freedom : Why It Matters that Ursula K. Le Guin Was an Anarchist
