I'd love to see us boycott the Olympics like we did while the Russians were in Afghanstan in 1980. The argument is it would hurt the athletes, think it is more important that the lost revenues would send a message to Beijing. Someone needs to for a variety of reasons.

Fuck the Athletes! If all they live for is the Olympics, then they are sadly wasting their lives. There's a LOT more to life than sports.

And after the Olympics, what becomes of such atheletes? If you didn't win a Gold medal, you won't get product endorsements, so there's no big payoff.

So you spend so many years of your life trying to "be the best", like competition is the primary goal of life. And if you fail to be "the best", you will never be remembered, period. All those years training, to the exclusion of having a NORMAL life, wasted.

Oh, I can hear the counter arguments, but they're all B.S.

Ok, the athelete is in good shape, whoopie! You can do that working out 20 minutes a day.

It's all fucking HYPE - All professional sports and the Olympics. It's all about MAKING MONEY, NOT MAKING PEACE, despite claims otherwise.

The only justification I see for public arena sports is to keep the atheletes from making WAR! Far better for two boxers to duke it out in the ring than their leaders to NUKE-IT-OUT in real life.

But surely there are better ways to spend the BILLIONS that go to the Olympics.

How about an Environmental Olympics? Where the "winners" are the people of the planet who get a cleaner, safer environment! Where anyone can participate. And the "medals" go to those who find the most effective ways to go green!

That's an Olympics I could support!

hah..and now WE'RE in there! Are we having fun yet, kids?

I think discussing Burma, is just adding to the list of nations we know are suffering, not blinding us to the ones that have "gone before" (via media) and are still in dire straits. At least, I hope we're not all that short-sighted. We've had a picture up for years here at the house, of the kid standing in front of the tank at Tianamen Square. And when I look at it, I see more than just China that day. That's one picture that speaks more than a 1,000 words. Maybe what draws us to Burma is that it's violence on Monks. Thousands of peaceful Monks linked by arms...marching for freedom. I'm just suprised the regime took so long to fire on them. Maybe they were waiting for orders from China.

I'm all up for boycotting the Olympics. I can do that without even trying.

I promise not watch one telecast from the olympics or buy any of the goods surrounding it. Wasn't that what we were supposed to do in 1980, why was it good then but not a viable option now?

We did nothing for those students in Tianamen Square...I will always be embarrassed and apologetic for that.

Most favored nation status, they should never have received that!

Ask yourselves this...where are Lieberman, Bush, Clinton and others that are supporting the war on terrorism while the least among us are put at lethal risk? Our children and dumb pets. Their responses have been that economies have to be supported before the safety of these.

I am sick of weighing economic results as more important than life.

The ironic thing is we paid for these products. We bought them and supplied them to children and charges in our care that can't protect themselves.

Terrorists with bombs strapped to their bodies aren't at blame this time we are. You're worried about abortion and gay rights while corporate powers are poisoning your children and your homes.

You're more worried about a possible nuclear threat...the US is the only power that has used such a threat against people. Who guarrantees we won't use it again, you buy into a new cold war before you look at the most lethal threat facing you. Toxic goods. You continue to buy them, because those in power promise you prosperity. What good is prosperity if those you care about die.

Can't let a little terror attack interfere with business profits, can we?

Americans have never been asked to sacrifice anything during this war.

    Why?

Because if there was ANY burden placed upon the entire American populace (other than higher gas prices), they might REJECT the war!

God forbid there was a draft and RICH PEOPLE'S kids were sent to Iraq!

God forbid we should have fuel rationing to keep prices down!

God forbid Corporations lose money because people start SAVING their money for hard times instead of buying everything in sight! - That was their fear obviously. That's why they reminded everyone to Go Shopping!

Meanwhile though Americans have had minimal distress with the various wars our gov't has launched since 9/11 (we're saving the distress/debt for future generations to deal with), certain American businesses have made OBSCENE RECORD PROFITS from the war, and we know they are the friends of BUSH and CHENEY.

A few get rich, hundreds of thousands DIE, millions suffer for years without end.

This is the FUTURE of GLOBALIZATION.

Get used to it or FIGHT IT!

You only have to lose one child to realize the rest is crap. Imagine how the families in the middle east feel.

The only thing is they have nothing to lose now, they've lost their livelihoods, their homes, their children and their security with the promise of what...democracy? Imagine how you would feel. Nothing to lose why not strap on bombs, they aren't terrorists they are people.

It's time we saw them as such and worked towards a productive dialogue, instead of the cowboys and indians crap we've been working with for the past seven years.

TERRORIST? What exactly is a terrorist, why aren't we going after the IRA? Thing is it's a label used by powerful people to push an agenda, just like we did with the native Americans in the US, those people ended up with the lands, it's only recently that they (native Americans) have learned to play the game and have opened casinos and reaped some gain, on land that wasn't worth shit when they were given it.

Muslim now translates to TERRORIST, much as heathan translated to Indian (Native American) in our early history. I thought we were better than that.

How can these things still be happening in the 21 century? I am totally thrown off balance, by the state of the world today.

It's the OLD GUARD's dying last throes, I hope.

They're saying now the Burmese can look forward to another generation living in FEAR of their rulers.

The only hope is the crack in the military. Some officers have fled the country rather than murder innocent monks.

This is sad, immature, hopeless... We should always be aware & helping our world. Apathy is sickness. It is our responsibility to preserve consciousness through independent media. Do your own damn searching, & take pity on America's shortcomings. Stand up. Fight.

Absolutely nothing, and thank god for it.

Israel has other things to worry about.

    Honduras has nothing to give.

...and you really don't want Russia to stick its nose in Darfur, even though Russia is probably supplying someone there with weapons :)
