i like you, tom. but you're a bit forceful and i think in order to have a fair discussion everyone's opinion must be treated respectfully.

lunar, i think his rape charges are utter bullshit and an obvious set up, but they are rape charges so its natural for his personal character to be called into question on charges stemming from something personal.

i do agree with thedope that his motives for wikileaks call into question his character, and I think that is certainly relevant in discussion, but I don't think its relevant in his right to release these documents. Whether or not his motives are pure, his right to share sensitive information with the masses still exists.

maybe i'm getting all these julian assange threads mixed up and i actually posted this reply in another thread...if anyone finds this post, but longer and better worded, in another thread, excuse it. or excuse this one. maybe it didn't show up because the feds have already infiltrated HF! ....joking. sort of.

But his motives are irrelevant. It's the content of the released cables and documents that matter, the guy who released them hardly matters.

Even if he did have "impure" motives behind their release, who cares? The point is that the information in those cables is important. We're being lied to and fucked by our government(s), that's what really matters. Assange is one man and he is not the enemy.

If the documents supported political positions that you strongly disagreed with, would you still trust him and assume that all his shit was legit?

I don't trust anybody, unless I have known them personally for a long time. It doesn't matter if I agree with them or not.

 

That's a good point, but, I take the silence and anger from multiple governments as a sign that he didn't edit them. If he had they would have pointed it out faster than flies take to pig shit. I'm actually surprised they haven't lied yet and said he edited them as a way to cover their own asses.

Does nobody understand the point of Julian walking out of the interview when the reporter started asking him about this stuff?

The only people who are concerned about these charges are those who are looking to discredit him. These charges came about as a response to him releasing documents.

You know what though... even though I am sure there is no one here who is more rabid against sexual abuse or rape then I am, I don't give a shit if he did or not...

Put yourself in his position... someone sends you a bunch of papers like he was... and you publish them, in order to show the world the TRUTH...
