I don't know. All of them probably. Do you want me to ask her?

are you saying that government is inevitable?

perhaps then it ought not to matter which means we use to achieve it?

so then, you have no problem with anarchism, as it is just another link in the chain of history, right?

i'm not sure of the proper term, but are you what i'm calling [sake of argument, slightly zonked] a historical determinist?

that is to say, do you think that historical events always unfold in the same fashion, perhaps even when only one circumstance, and that merely a highly-misunderstood a philosophy, is a common piece in an otherwise always-differing [peoples, places, eras] puzzle?

[groucho, can you repeat the question?]

    What was the question again?

I think for every country in the world there seems to be a steady breakdown of society following by more oppression. How do you think they will find a leader to replace Mubarak? They will have to have one, but where will the new democratic party who will end up being elected come from?

And they will promise change and wealth and prosperity, but underneath they will be essentially the same people.

dunno, if i was to ask the only two egyptians i've ever befriended one would be itching for an islamic state and the other might be mildly nostalgic for king farouk

i'm still trying to figure out why anarchy would ever produce two identical results . . .

Did I say anarchy was responsible for the creation of a democratic state?

Maybe we should be worried that they're even considering it ?

The Welfare Reform Bill introduces the power for mandatory drug testing for benefits claimants. The penalty for not complying with the test, or with a resulting rehabilitation plan is loss of benefit for 26 weeks.

So - I dont partake in any "illeagal" drug - no, really I dont - but I could still be ordered to take a test or else. I can just see this power being wielded enthusiastically by certain Jobcentre staff - talking back ? Just piss in this bottle, sir...

Maybe even more worrying from the same proposed bill...

    Compulsion to access medical treatment

The Bill will allow employment advisors to decide the appropriate activity a claimant should undertake to be ready for work, including activities to manage their health.

This power could be used to require a claimant to access healthcare provision, take medication or access psychological therapies. This will blur the boundaries between health provision and social control, and may mean that people are compelled to access physical or mental health treatment in order to obtain their benefits.

Oh, and once you've had your compulsory drug test -

The bill proposes that information about benefit claimants will be more widely shared between government agencies, including sharing information from the police, prison service and health services with employment agencies.

    Worried yet ?

And they're in the process of pushing it through right now...

What about Iran. Things are a bit more complicated with a party of God in power. The Egyptians however have a real chance for positive change.

Furthermore in the future lets hope that those that dispense aid and influence to states in the region refocus on development assistance rather than military assistance. Would it not be better to help those that are protesting the conditions that result in widespread poverty and lack of opportunity rather than the military industrial complexes (command economize) of both the aid givers and the recipient martinet regimes. Now that could be a real change. The Germans, EU and the Chinese are certainly equipped to play a bigger role.

hmmm...you go to the shrink, he/se says 'you crazy'. you lose your right to have a firearm. you are less of a threat. power is stabilized further.

you get drug tested. you cannot answer on the 4473 truthfully that 'i am not addicted to a drug'. you lose your right to have a firearm. you are less of a threat.

impounding a good percentage of the population on drug charges as 'felonies', so as to deny their right to own a firearm was not quick enough. more than one way to denut the Constitution and second amendment. they already tore shit out of the first by controlling news through the administrative process. they got their hands in the internet with the 'patriot act', and are grasping for more control.

    great plan.

Funnily enough I find that smoking cannabis helps me to manage my health and makes me ready to undertake work. OTOH not having access to a supply tends to have the opposite effect and the very fact that it is illegal is largely responsible for the fact that I am currently a benefits claimant. Conclusion: the people running this country are a bunch of hypocritical, moronic, nazi fucks.

Maybe you should start a thread elsewhere as this is sort of off-topic. Or is it? What we are discussing is still fodder for revolution in Britain..

You're right... I'll start a new thread. The UK forum ought to be the place, but given the general level of political awareness on there...maybe not !

SoI'll introduce one on Alchemy & Accident... I was going to start an unemployment related one anyway, so I'll dovetail this in with it.

May take me a day or two... a bit busy in the real world this week [who thinks the unemployed sit around all day ? I hardly seem to get a minute to myself...]

Fully agree, but there's one problem you may not have considered...proximity to Israel. If they decide they dont like the way things are going and tell big brother America... who knows what might happen ?
