When my Mother told me that 'Lettuce on toast' was a Good remedy for Insomnia (?!) I wonder what other Gems there are out there?
Lettuce contains "lettcucine". Certain varieties contain more lettcucine than others. It is synergistic with toastophen and the small amounts of unconverted breadadine found in bread.
Knowing hf, was expecting a one-handed post about something sexual and totally illogical, as a suggested remedy for some benign non-issue, that op would be pretending was absolutely insufferable. I'm disappointed.
while you are being sarcastic, some forms of wild lettuce do have components that act like a mild opiate. so the OP's mother wasn't very far off considereing "lettuce opium" has been known about for ages.
When I was a kid we would scour the forest floor for Indian Cucumbers which to my knowledge has no medicinal purposes – but they do taste good Hotwater
For relieving constipation, try a trampoline. Yes, they cost a lot, but one should last you a lifetime. If that doesn't work, try three sets of tennis, or six rounds of boxing.
Some how I don't think it would help this couple https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O88h-_8lj_8 Hotwater
When I was a kid, we had some neighbors who said that you can cure an earache by lying on your side and pouring a teaspoon full of urine into the affected ear. It was the only time in my childhood that I was glad I wasn't somebody else's kid. As far as whether or not it actually helps, it could just be the effect of the warm fluid, and not necessarily the urine. I've never tried it, and if I did, I wouldn't tell you . . . not even if it worked. But it makes you wonder how someone discovered this home remedy. I get this picture of some kid with a really bad earache, and his mother saying to the father, "I don't know what else to do for little Jimmy; we've tried everything." And the father, stroking his beard, saying, "Well, not EVERYthing." Thank God the urine worked because I think we all know what little Jimmy's dad would have come up with next--some kind of a mud-pack, but . . . not mud.
Green leafy vegetables and whole grains have magnesium and folates, which tend to help sleep. Lettuce on whole grain toast as a remedy has some validity. Foods that are rich in magnesium, calcium, potassium (the blood electrolytes), and folates are expected to be helpful for sleep. Avoid alcohol and also caffeine, nicotine, monosodium glutamate, and other substances that act as stimulants and diurectics. They deplete the body of magnesium which can wreak sleep problems. Foods containing tyramine can cause insomnia. Examples are bacon, chocolate, and sugary foods. Nutritionally empty refined carbs are usually not helpful for sleep.
pissing on your feet is supposed to cure athletes foot. but it only works with your own pee, so no medicinal golden showers.
