    Yeah, I’ve seen dozens of pictures from back in the 1930s and 40s before the EPA and Clean Air Act and smog in major cities was commonplace.

    Smoke from industrial and chemical waste, mercury, leaded gasoline, motor vehicle emissions, steel and zinc smelters that were causing all sorts of respiratory and cardiovascular problems

    Back in the 60s, I was a student at the U of Minnesota and as we drove towards the Twin Cities one could see the brown pollution pall from about 40 miles out. This was in the well ventilated Midwest and common to other large cities in the region.

    A special mask designed to help you focus would make the wearer deaf and limit his or her vision. Why not just go to the library? Right??

    The diving horses of the steel pier in Atlantic City, late 1890s. Horses lept off of the steel pier and into the ocean with riders on their backs. The show was cancelled after World War II thanks to the efforts of The Humane Society.
