Is this an unreasonable question to ask? I don’t understand if statins are so therapeutic for the general population, why are there so many doctors who have spoken out against the use of statins? Besides the ones interviewed on the Catalyst program there were many more who although they agreed the general use of statins is unwise, they did not want to talk on camera. Maybe they were concerned about upsetting their professional indemnity insurance company? What about the numerous cases of people who have stopped taking statins due to the side effects? There is no smoke without fire. I upset many people on FB , one person calling it a false dichotomy and a non sequitur. I am not sure he knows the meaning of either term. f
Since you are 53, I would imagine that quite a few of your FB friends are already on statin drugs. Their doctor: you are going to have a heart attacked without these drugs. So they go on the drugs, seeing little other choice. So now what? Someone on their FB page tells them that the drugs are a scam, that they are harmful, and perhaps even implies that they are ignorant for taking them. What is easier? Do a lot of research, then talk to their doctor again, then change their entire diet and exercise regime and hope that it lowers their cholesterol? or Get upset at the FB status and decide that it can't be true and attack the poster for his stupid opinions, thus reinforcing their own?
