When I say, "unnerving", I guess I mean that even if you're in a place where public nudity is legal, it still seems very uncomfortable to do it alone. I've been on a bunch of group naked bike rides and they were all awesome. The most recent there were 6 or 7 of us and we just had this really fantastic, really chill ride on a sunny day through the city. Tons of people saw us. We rode right through the middle of the downtown. I was completely naked all day. At one point we were all lazing around naked in a grassy area in the middle of a roundabout, with hundreds of cars passing us by. And it was all pretty cool. And I've been on lots of naked bike rides and naked walks by myself at night in the summer. On weeknights, almost no one is around and when someone does see you, either they think you're high on something and they leave you alone, or they're bemused and ask you where your clothes are, or whether you're hot. Especially if it's a week night and there aren't many people around, you're more likely to get someone complimenting you than scolding or laughing at you. One night when I was walking around naked I even got approached by a couple who said that they were trying to get up the courage to do the same thing. And then, I've ridden around on my bike and walked naked around the city by myself during the day, and it's way different. The Anglo-Saxon world (and most of the world really) just isn't ready for casual public nudity. I wish people were more enlightened about this - that you could walk around naked on a really hot day, but they just aren't. There's a huge difference between a single guy walking around naked and even just 2 or 3 naked guys walking around naked. I guess people assume when it's a single guy that he's a weirdo, but that if it's multiple people that they're protesting or something.
The nudist part of me wants to commune with other naked people. The exhibitionist part of me would not mind being naked with clothed people around. Am I weird?
I personally don't think that is weird, I am just the same. I think most people have a bit of exhibitionist in them, but just don't like to admit it. Especially if others don't mind.
Nudist and exhibitionist here - I sometimes think that being a nudist is a lot like being an exhibitionist I love being naked around other naked people and seeing their naked bodies too, both male and female bodies
As Arlo Guthrie put it: You know, if one person, just one person does it they may think he's really sick, and they won't take him. And if two people, two people do it—in harmony—they may think they're both faggots and they won't take either of 'em. And three people do it—three, can you imagine?—three people walking in, singing a bar of Alice's Restaurant and walking out?—they may think it's an organization. And can you—can you imagine fifty people a day—I said fifty people a day!—walkin' in, singin' a bar of Alice's Restaurant and walking out. And friends, they may think it's a movement!
I love being nude, but am not fond of attention on me. So it is a conundrum for me. I am either in my house or out in the backyard naked most of the time. I do note that there is a certain sense of excitement about possibly having a neighbor see me. But so far that is about as risky as I get. Now maybe if the mrs was into it we could go to a nudist area and experience being with others. But I don't see that happening. Unless she could go clothed. But I think she would feel too awkward.
Buddy has a semi remote house so when I’m there I’m nude outside. Usually in pool. Nice views in the distance along with roads and traffic 2-300 yards away. We Can be seen walking around the yard and cooking etc but they have to be pretty focused on looking. Or 8x binoculars and it would be very easy.
I absolutely agree. I'm trim and fit for 70+, but 40-50 years ago I was a young "athlete". Not at the Cruise/Pitt level for sure, but I got compliments - leave it at that. Anyway, I wore Speedos - they made some pretty skimpy ones in the 80's- and so did many other guys. Then the 90's happened, as you described. I've never been ashamed of my body, in a swimsuit when required or nude when possible. I resent the idea that a man's body can't be as beautiful as a woman's. Fortunately, I have the Greeks and Michaelangelo on my side! And to answer the original question, I'm "ambidextrous". When everyone is nude that's great- women ARE beautiful! But I've been in the "lone ranger" situation (always with at least the implied consent of the clothed, as at beaches where nudity is legal but not practiced every day) enough to say that, yes, there's a special difficult-to-describe excitement and feeling of freedom.
I've been both, and enjoyed each scenario, though maybe for different reasons. Social nudity is great fun, the feeling of acceptance that goes with the freedom. Being the only one nude appeals to a show-offish streak in my personality, and to be honest, has a sexy aspect different from a nudist group setting.
