Who's talking about stealing? Its not as if we would be taking 1/3 of some well-to-do family's income. Most likely such a program would be paid for through taxes. And if that was the case it would probably be the middle class who got pinned with the bill, because everyone knows that the high and mighty ones who rule our society don't believe they should be taxed at all. As it is, they has all kinds of loop holes and shit.

But back to my point, if there were such a thing in this country, it would probably be a tax they take out. Same as the shit they use to pay for public schools (I guess its no ones responsibility to school poor peoples' children either, huh?) and to pay government workers, and social security and so on. So it's not like you'd be having bill collectors coming to the door and saying, "your neighbor has an outstanding medical bill, and we've come to take your paycheck to cover the costs." All this boo-hooing over taking others' money is pure BS. And all this crap about rich people blah blah blah.....you make your money off of this society, you thrive off of ripping other's off, i fail to see how they'd be worse off for contributing a little bit back. They might have to wait another whole week before they can get their (useless) gold plated toilet seat. Boo hoo.

I like what Butterfly said--"it's how I was raised".Now there's the meat of it .Figure it out.The countries with health care for all, have a "we're all in this together" mentality.Ours, and others that don't, have a fuck you attitude. You can't afford to pay--die asshole. You got money--why come on in!And by the way-check up on the type of medical, child care, etc ,your legislators have. The nerve of those bastards, having socialist medicine for themselves.Oh yeah--I remember now-they're the elites-we're just the unwashed masses WHO FUCKING PAY FOR EVERYTHING THAT THEY ENJOY!Not to mention the helicopters to Columbia, the money to Russia,Israel and all the others. Now we find out the corporations cook the books(lie),pay out millions to executives, while these same executives lay thousands off or "outsource" jobs to other countries, the bond market is crooked, the stock market is rife with insider trading and various other tricks. The energy companies flat fucked us here in Calif--and laugh about it.And they will probably get by with it,if the repubs have anything to do with it.See what I'm getting at--it's how we were raised. It's a culture of 'me first ,motherfucker, and don't you dare suggest that I am responsible for you or anyone else--I'm gettin' mine ,so get out of the way"And the "me first assholes are the first one's to invoke the name of god to placate the doubters and questioners.Quite the christian nation,indeed.-----------------------------By the way-do you like apples?------------------------------------------scratcho----------------

Scratcho-I am with you on this. Where is the compassion and caring gone? This is such a self-serving society we live in. The idea that people are poor because they choose to be or that they are poor because they are lazy is ridiculous. Does anyone here know the true cost of health care? It is a given that our Doctors and other health care professionals deserve a good income because they worked for it. However, there is so much greed in the mix it is hard to be sympathetic.
We are paying for services and supplies way in excess of what is reasonable. The pharmaceutical companies are a prime example of this. Sure they have to spend money on developing new drugs, but come on, once a medicine is on the market, how much does it take to produce it?

In addition the insurance companies spend enormous amounts of money to lobby against universal healthcare, although they would be the natural choice to administer it. They lobby against laws that restrict them form raising premiums up to a point where your average citizen cannot afford coverage. So we are stuck having to work so that we can get group insurance.

Also, healthcare fraud is costing billions of dollars a year, medicare recently paid over a million dollars for adult diapers that were not even provided to patients.

GREED, it seems to be the american way, since our "leaders" show, by example, that it is OK, you can't blame others that follow the same shallow values.

Well speaking as a Canadian I have to say that our healthcare system is not perfect, but I would much rather pay a little more in taxes for what we do have than be slapped with a hospital bill if something happens. $10,000 for an emergency room visit for a kidney stone is enough to give you a stroke on top of it. If that visit had taken place here in Canada it would have been FREE. Although it is true that we do pay for somethings such as health forms for upper grade drivers licences, and some eye exams.

Not all the 'best' doctors are in it for the money. Some of them actually CARE about people. High fees do not make the doctor better, only richer, and how many homes he owns does not mean anything when you need him to do his job.

To those who said that if you can't afford health care you don't deserve it...things like that come back to bite you in the ass sooner or later and you would do well to remember your words and what you wish on people. You could one day be in that same position.

In short I would much rather be ill in Canada than ill in the US where they can take your insurance away from you just for using it.

You are a fucking idiot, period. I am an American citizen. My family has been here for over 10 years and they most certainly pay the same taxes as you do. Oh, and the child molesting Catholics are a small percentage of priests, but I agree, if I had my way they would be put to death.

Your stupidity is the only thing dripping on this thread, as you have FAILED to respond to the points that refuted yours. So go ahead, continue to personally insult me, but everyone can now see you cannot defend your precious socialized medicine in a realistic, factual way. You aren't fooling anyone. How would you feel if I had made a comment about your step mother's sickness, and you have the nerve to make fun of me becasue I have depression? You're sick.

not true. the wealthy still pay more in taxes with their loopholes and shit, than the middle class does. and i'm alread paying enough in taxes that i don't want them raised. prove to me that every person in this country who's wealthy is ripping everyone else off. whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty. i'm not going to be okay with taking other people's money to suit my needs and that's that.

Um, exactly what points did Your Holiness make that were unrefutable? You musn't have read my posts clearly, or you're just looking for any old reason to throw a fit. The only "points" you made were that doctors would stink, and that you shouldn't have to pay for someone else's medical bills. You have nothing solid to back up the first claim, and the second one is just your own selfish opinion.

Depression is something totally different than manic depression/bi polar disorder, so which one is it?

Grendel--well, they don't get it.You might as well ask a bushman in a remote valley in the Phillipines to construct a pool table or a high rise as to expect some of these posters to understand the feeling behind the sharing of medical resources or anything else that would be of benefit to anyone besides themselves.Just like computers--garbage in,garbage out.I don't blame them-it's what has been taught to them and others in the last 40 or so years.I think it began in '73,when the oil companies and the oil producing nations colluded to create an "oil shortage'.They(you know who) found out that the american people would do NOTHING-ABSOLUTELY NOTHING-when royally fucked. And we still won't!-----------------You know, you can take an infant and program it to learn whatever you want it to learn.Attitudes towards others, prejudices, the inflections and nuances of language, political attitudes, how it would see the world and on and on.These little blank slates have obviously been programmed by the ME GENERATION.To what they have been programmed is amply manifested here on this ,of all things,a hippy site. Most people know that which they don't know. But there are some things that we DON'T KNOW THAT WE DON'T KNOW.Hell, these folks don't even suspect. What the hell are we going to do?Nothing ,I guess. It's up to each individual to seek some answers to life's perplexing problems. If the solutions are what we see here by some of these so-called christians and others, then of course there will be NO solution to healing this country from it's ills and making it the country it could be.I love this country--I have deep roots here.We fought in the revolution, the civil war, took part in the goldrush of 1849 and one of my ancestors was Daniel Boone, who opened up much of this country for expansion. So any motherfuckers that dare tell me to move if I don't like it here, better be prepared to move me themselves!---------------and for fuck sakes--knock off that commie bullshit --that is so passe as to be laughable.Thank you Butterfly--"it's how I was raised"That says it all.----------------------------scratcho-----------------

I think $ can be spent on educating and encouraging people to take good care of themselves and thereby prevent poor health. Also pollution of air and water should be addressed, I'm sure many of us who make serious efforts to remain healthy are doing so in vain because of the disgusting pollution that exists in so many areas.

If the education system was used to promote healthy living, kindness to animals and humans, peacefull ways to solve conflicts and the idea of sharing in addition to the 3 r's,instead of readying people to be compliant enough to climb on the endless zombie treadmill--then we'd have something. Is that worthwhile? Will it happen?Nah---fuck everybody else---it's all about ME_ME_ME_ME.-------------------------buy more---buy more now---------scratcho------------------

I agree, reform in education is needed more badly than reform in healthcare, in my opinion.

You know, statistically speaking, inner city (poor) children have a higher percentage of lung problems (asthma, infection, etc.) than others. Has anyone noticed that they tend to put landfills and dumps, factories and such, right in THEIR neighborhoods? It's because the rich people want it as far away from them as possible. Look up the location of any landfill in any major city, and you'll usually find a housing project somewhere nearby. The shit in ATL is fucking sick. KC, I think this might be one example of wealthy people directly affecting the health of the poor. Personally, i consider that ripping them off.

    From mynameiskc:
Now if you folks will excuse me, I think I'ma bail out on this thread. It's pretty useless to be fussing over something that doesn't even exist in this country, and since I've pretty much had my say along with everyone else, I'd rather not sit here squabbling and nit-picking over the details of it. Of course, I'll stay if anyone thinks they'll miss me too much (especially you, jozak sweetie ;) )

I think it is selfish you want everyone else to pay your medical bills. You still have not proved to me where in the constitution it says you are entitled to free healthcare. Our constitution allows us to Pursue those things.

Secondly, I have bipolar disorder, I take medication for it. I did not want to get that personal on the forum, but since you asked I'm not going to lie about it.

Did I ever say that if you enstate national health services you will turn communism? No, I didn't. Thank you for twisting my words. Universal Healthcare is certainly a communistic Idea.
