So? It's obviously still not enough. My point is that if we are already rationing healthcare without a socialized system, then the problem is the system itself, not the source of funding (public vs private).

    Peace, Alex

Huh? So do you think the Aztecs were communists or not? Because they were nowhere close to being communists.

Socialism isn't going to solve the problem, it's going to make it worse. And as heartless as it may sound, yes, it's better for 90% of Americans to receive quality health-care and 10% to receive none at all, as opposed to 100% of Americans receiving shitty Canadian-style healthcare.

Not true. We have plenty of doctors.

I don't know your situation, but if the condition was not urgent, you probably weren't at the top of the doctors' list of priorities.

Umm...how so? How is it even relevant to the idea of socialized medicine?

It's quite different. The military needs to be funded by the government so you don't have the McDonald's Army fighting the Wal-Mart Army fighting the Microsoft Army fighting the Exxon Army. There is no comparable reason for the government to fund health care or medical education.

I disagree. I think the problem is the health insurance industry, which has made our system very close to a socialized system. If we make our system completely socialized, we can expect more shortages of health care providers and products. (ie, flu vaccine shortage!)

No they were not, it's like a truthful sarcasm of sorts. If you don't understand though, there's a big difference between Aztecs and Incas.

Huck’s being badgering me to make a contribution here (and he’s like a little puppy wanting it’s meal slightly irritating but so cute I have to feed him)

    So

My general position is that I favour a UK style NHS system but that anything that has such a vast job as to look after a nations health need to be adaptable and pragmatic so to fix a system in stone is a bit silly. It seems to me to be a mater of political will.
My view on the US system is that the insurance and pharmaceutical companies have too much power and hold up reform in that area and that US governments have decided to priorities the military/industrial complex over national health
