my brother is an atheist. He joined the Unitarian Church. They accept Agnostics and Atheists. He wanted a church-like experience, especially for his kids. They do follow Ethical Humanism, as a creed. Do a lot of nice charity work, things like that. Just saying...if folks have kids and wanted that kind of experience for their kids / family... the Unitarian Church is welcoming for Agnostics and Atheists... and I don't think anyone would experience some kind of authoritarian kind of folks there..
I might add, just to clarify: the U.U. church is unique in having no common creed. They take not only atheists and agnostics, but also Christians, Jews, and pagans. I'm a Methodist, but I take fellowship with a group of Freethinkers, most of whom are members of the U.U. church. We meet there regularly. The other sub-groups have their own meetings there. What you don't find are Catholics and Evangelical Christians, but that's by their own choice!
I've never been to that church, but I've only heard good things about it. I always wanted to join a church that consumes cannabis and psychedelics to achieve a higher union.
My last uu attendance was abt 10yrs ago. A few states west. Was stranded there. Id gotten to know an eccentric older gentleman. & he invited me to one. Id been to other uu s. But itd been awhile. & he didnt lemme know which it was.
I was raised a Unitarian, haven't been to a service in many years. Unitarians don't deny the existence of God but we question it. Basically they say there's a lot we don't know and shouldn't assume. They're not much into faith-based belief, they want evidence.
