Even convicted murderers are afforded certain "rights" in a civil society...
Not counting the right to council and to appeal of thier case, but the right to sunlight, sanitary food and water, and otherwise humane conditions during incarceration.

    Yeah BBAD, it was me.

About doing damage on the internet, as far as I know if someone slanders a business or person on the web and it can be proven to have caused economic harm, then they can be sued for liable.

Governments not knowing how to fix a problem or governments not intending to fix the problem in the first place- enacting increasingly repressive regulations on the premise that they are intended as solutions when nothing could be further from the truth?

To me, the government wants the bigger problem in order to demonstrate how we are purportedly collectively incapable of policing ourselves as justification for enacting more and more restrictions on our so-called "free speech"- in order to supposedly protect us (bullshit).

It's high time that people begin seeing their governments for what they are- and reading through the bullshit propaganda in every form it takes- news and news commentary, political speech, staged government debate, PSA spots, and just about every other form of data that oozes out of mass media; Then start recognizing how it's effectiveness is reflected in the manner which people interact; the divisions fostered and the quantity of credibility given the mainstream political figures who promote themselves as reformers and as advocates for the average citizen.

Time after time the newest crop shows themselves for the corrupted liars that they are but time after time people gobble up the tripe laid out by the newest round of candidates pledging to "clean up Washington".

The US is likely watching intently to see how easily this gets shoved up the British public's ass and may well be working on a domestic sales pitch based on [hysterical shriek]protecting the children[/hysterical shriek] or somesuch...

Then they should be sued for libel, not have their right to use the internet abridged. Either one is free, or isn't. And besides, I believe in a very free form of free speech.... Unless it can be pretty much proven to be part of a full on malicious campaign, I don't see a problem with anything anyone says, so long as it is not physically threatening someone. And if it is, go after them for that, not their right to use the computer.

It seems like an effort to take the internet for "civilized" folks, I don't think they'd like most of hf using the internet for example, if they had the choice or time. The internet is quite important to living a modern life, and an effort to block otherwise free people from using it is quite fucked up.

    pedophile?

Did you miss the legal case in Briton years ago wherein Pete Townsend of the WHO, heard a TV news report about pedophilia and got curious to see if there really were pedophile picture web sites really going on on the Internet?

Well, somehow the Coppers automatically knew that he had gone to his first pedophile web site and they got a warrant and took his hard drive, and changed him, and threw him in jail. And tried to brand him a child raper in the Press.

    Do you know about this?

His was forced to plead guilty, and pay big fines and everything, even though the police were spying on his computer and on his internet service provider. And today he is a regestered sex offender just because he was curious and he didn't know that they had a law against viewing child porn.

As the Wicked Witch of the West said as she was dying, "Oh, what a world. What a world."

Now, what we need to do, since they are creating this brand new market out there, is to form a co-operative, find a nation were no one cares or has laws on this, buy a big server, and then becoming Internet service providers for everyone who values Free Speech. Charge a regular monthly subscription just like all other Internet service providers, and guarantee Anomimity and untraceability. Sound like there's a big growing market for this. We could be the next facebook mega-giant business.

Fuck the Stasi, (the secret police of East Germany).

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was almost banned from hipforums and so was my friend, Shameless, almost. I'd get rid of us, too. We're subversive. We can't help it. We were born that way.

Lots of ways to get around blocks..WiFi hot spots, anonymisers, friends' computers,
Before the Internet was real widely used, we just dialed in to a BBS down the road and he could look up stuff for us, download it and post it in shared files section.
Dialup was sloooooow, but it's all we had. A few guys had two phone lines attached to two modems and could double their speed that way.

but the powers that be could sure make it a hassle going online if they start banning people who had unpopular opinions.

Isn't bullying something that can get you banned from hipforums? Whats the difference? Doesn't that take away your freedom of speech?

Freedom of speech does not apply to a private web forum.
You could be banned for typing in CAPS or using blue font when you are told to use black font.
Of course, people might get fed up and leave if they were abused like that and the forum would then lose money.

But no, Skip is not legally forced to accept us as members nor forced to retain us.

Free speech is an issue between an individual and their government.

ONLY YOUR GOVERNMENT HAS THE POWER TO DENY YOU FREE SPEECH. Got it?

We say this is a FREE SPEECH SITE, so that GOVERNMENTS know not to censor or delete this site from the Internet. Got it?

When will people learn the meaning of free speech?

This is the LAST FUCKING TIME I'm gonna say it. Quote this post from now on, please. Thanks!

Free speech doesn't give ANYONE the right to insult another person. It doesn't give anyone the right to threaten another person. It doesn't make someone on a website unbannable.

Free speech ends at the end of your nose. As soon as another individual is involved in your speech, it comes under legal restrictions that have nothing to do with free speech.

If anyone doesn't like the way we run this site, they still have FREE SPEECH and can start their own website. There is NO WAY we can stop them from doing that right? So how have WE in anyway limited their ability to have Free Speech. We haven't!

Now if your gov't says you can no longer access the Internet, then IT IS LIMITING YOUR FREE SPEECH. Something we could never do...

If a government censors or blocks this website, then they are limiting the free speech of ALL OF US. Got it?

And there have been direct and indirect attempt to censor this website. Fortunately I have either fought them off myself or others have stopped the legislation from being passed. So I have protected ALL of your rights to speak freely here ON ANY SUBJECT except one - Assassinating the president of the US.

That is the main point. YOU ARE FREE TO SPEAK ON ANY SUBJECT HERE ON THE HIPFORUMS. That is the Freedom of Speech we support here. Wanna talk about drugs, no problem. Wanna talk about sex, no problem. Wanna talk about revolution, no problem. Got it?

Instead I get daily insults that I'm somehow preventing people from exercising their "Free Speech". What ignorant bullshit I have to contend with...
