INF nuclear treaty: US formally withdraws from nuclear treaty with Russia and prepares to test new missile - CNNPolitics

The U.S has withdrawn from the intermediate range nuclear forces treaty to test new cruise missiles to counter Russia and China.

Will this then lead to further withdrawals from longer range missile treaties, and finally a nuclear holocaust in the U.S, Russia, Europe and China!

In the last century itself, there were a couple of lucky escapes as shown by the cases of Stanislov Petrov and Vasily Arkhipov.

List of nuclear close calls - Wikipedia

Can this be considered a failure on the part of the UN, which may emerge to be an another toothless 'League of Nations' !

After the cold war ended in 1991, a democratic Russia should have been incorporated into Nato. This was sought by Putin himself in 2000 when Clinton visited Moscow.

Or else, NATO should have been disbanded as the communist threat had ceased to exist. It's continued existence is perceived as a threat by the Russians, who had suffered invasions from european military leaders like Napoleon and Hitler.

The invasions of Georgia and Ukraine was preceded by these nations (on the borders of Russia) seeking to join Nato with the willingness of the U.S. Obviously the Russians perceive a security threat from Nato and the U.S. expanding right to the very borders of Russia. This is enough to make any country insecure, especially with a country like Russia that had in the past suffered traumatic invasions from Europe. Nearly 25 million people were killed in the battle between U.S.S.R and Nazi Germany.

The Germans and French were vocal about not taking in Georgia into NATO so as not to appear provocative to an insecure Russia by having NATO forces perched on Russian borders itself, but this was not taken into consideration and NATO stated that Ukraine and Georgia would be admitted in the alliance and pledged to review the requests for MAP in December 2008. This lead to the Russian preparation and invasion of Georgia, and later on the Ukrainian war. In retrospect, all this could have been avoided if NATO had shown tactful and intelligent sensitivity to Russian insecurities, instead of riding roughshod over it, and allowed the UN to operate there instead.

Russia, having embraced democracy in 1991, should have been given the time, space and resources to develop its democratic institutions, so that it would have a corresponding domino effect on neighboring China . Western democratic institutions could have done great service to Russia and world democracy in this regard.

But continued western military expansion and insensitivity to Russian interests , have now sabatoged and stunted the growth of democratic institutions in Russia due to nationalistic sentiments inflamed by paranoia, leading to the resumption of the cold war again.

It is said that a cornered tiger is the most ferocious as it has no exit. This is the condition of Russia at the moment with the U.S. and NATO expanding to its very borders, while rabble rousing Russian politicans have successfully capitalised this to promote jingoism in Russia.

I think the UN ought to constantly keep in mind the past debacle of 'league of nations',and should separate these immature belligerents and keep a buffer zone between them with UN troops from elsewhere. International leadership should rise to the occasion and ensure that the situation is stabilised diplomatically and does not inflame further.

No... It's not on the UN that the USA retreats from the treaty.

Putin does not want the US in Europe. Most of NATO"s military's threat is depending on the US. With current politics here Americans don't care what happens to Europe. Putin is good, they are socialist and overrun with Muslims so fuck them. Only those weak lefties will care.

The orange puppet has done well.

Putin is gone in a few years. A lot of russians are getting more vocal against him, his failing on national issues and his and his party's corruption.

Hopefully that happens. Wouldn't he want to make a big move to stop that? I think he and Trump have made plans for there to be no elections. How do you do that in a time of war? I hope I am wrong but I'm also a conspiracy theorist.

He will try to replace himself with a cronie. But happily a lot of russians are not only fed up with him but also with his party.
I doubt Trump is involved in such a plan lol

There's an awful lot of disenchantment here too with the scumbags in the 'nasty party' !!! With any luck they will be wiped out for the next generation at the next general election, whenever that is called.

The UN is a distinguished branch of the international conglomerates, with the US paying half the bills, because its cheaper than the alternatives and makes more money. Weapons are the largest money making export of the largest exporters in the world, but Swiss banks don't have a problem dealing with Neo-Nazis or whoever. Anywho, the UN is a smashing success, which is why the Winner Takes All Global Economy Contest has been narrowed down to an estimated 1,700 contestants. In God We Trust! Because nobody else will foot the damned bills and the robots are taking over!

The US threw away their treaty with the Soviet Union in the 1980s not to do research into Star Wars technology, because the US can do whatever the fuck it wants, and never pays attention to drunk Russians who are already threatening nuclear war. We know exactly how unstable all the dictators we support are. Next gen defenses will include 40,000 drones in the ocean, probably three times that by the time they are done, and drones in the sky all controlled by the Pentagon. The ocean drones can already go at least a year without recharging. Laser and particle beam weapons are reaching a critical point in their research, and we can expect dramatic increases to the point of handheld weapons becoming practical and shooting hyper missiles out of the sky becomes easier.

Tank and infantry robotics are also making progress, but these are the early days. Tank drones bring entirely new meaning to Blitzkrieg tactics, while the first attempted political assassination by drones involved close to one hundred exploding drones and killed six people. Amazon has since moved next door to the Pentagon, so they can share the same drones.

I saw that movie. I didn't really watch though. It played and played until finally they fought. Lol. I turned it off! He was definitely in it, yeah. Vitor Drago, Drago's son, was played by Florian Munteanu.
