I own one. I use it everyday. Its a more satisfying type than plastic keys. There's a snap in every letter, you can literally hear the inspiration coming from an artist on an old fashioned typewriter.

my manager has one...he uses it for things like envelopes and special forms that can't be printed out on computers...but other than that, I find typewriters to be rather useless, too

I work at a law firm-we have them all over here for forms.

There's a 60 year old guy who comes in once a month to repair them-he charges $150 an hour.

    Typewriters are amazing.

I have this bad boy sitting on my desk at home. An Underwood from the 1940s. When I found it there were dead mice inside the front panel in a nest so the lady brought the price down from $25 to $5.

I also have one from around 1910 that is portable. It's stuck to a small plank of wood and sits in a metal carrying case.

I use them both to write. They make me feel important.

heh, i spent a lotta time in my youth hammering away at an olivetti portable typewriter

in my early twenties i sat typing examinations on something similar to the monster lunarverse posted

they were clunky bastards that were a total pain in the arse when they were being awkward ......... but i suppose they got the job gone

    i don't miss them :mickey:

I used an old Remington portable in the 60's and 70s. Graduated to an electric in the 80s. Thought I'd never get used to a computer keyboard but it didn't take long. I sure don't miss using Whiteout or erasers that would double as sandpaper.

I just weighed mine. She came in at exactly 40 lbs. Feels a bit heavier than that though.

Either I need to start learning how to fix a typewriter or it is very complicated.

I love using a typewriter! There is something way more satisfying about typing on a typewriter than on a computer. And I hate to look at computer screens for hours on end, so I love my typewriter for that reason as well.

I can't use typewriters because they do not have spell check and I am a terrible speller.

Big heavy typewriters make excellent weapons. It would take all day to bludgeon someone with a computer keyboard.

Don't even get me started on the cheap desk phones they make these days.
