Happy Birthday... I bought a lot of liquor before I turned 21 and never got checked and the day I turned 21 the lady I had bought from for several years Checked my I D she just looked at me and said Happy Birthday and Laughed.

The black X on non-drinkers hands used to be a very common way to mark people at an all-ages party. Later this was adopted by the Straight Edge crowd, who would mark their own hands with X's to show that they do not drink or do drugs. Sometimes you'll see serious Straight Edgers that have tattooed their hands that way.

When my bro turned 21 they didn't card him and he was pissed off... ruined the excitement and means he could have been buying all along.

 

I recall that being my experience as well... and my reaction as well... very anticlimactic. These days I barely drink...

My other brother (mad rhymez) is 19 and has been buying booze for a couple of years. He walks around town looking at least thirty. Cigs since he was 15 too.

I, on the other hand, sweet innocent little Sarah, can't buy a fucking lighter without being carded.

 

that happened to me too, but then i still get carded sometimes now. it's more about who you happen to be buying from than the fact that 21 year olds look a certain way that everyone agrees on.

 

Wait until you get asked if you want a Seniors discount.

I was asked for my ID in a bar once in my life, and that wasn't even here, i was in Amsterdam. which is not bad considering i've had zero problem entering clubs/bars and buying alcohol in the past 18 years.
that one time in Amsterdam, i was 27. So basically they IDed me thinking i was under 18. i just don't age lol
