It seems no matter what facts I present people here choose to believe their own preconceived notions about Tim Leary. They don't accept fact. That's how history is changed. Ignorance is bliss. To each his/her own.

Richard Nixon and the FBI called Tim Leary the most dangerous man in the county. This was because of the alarming rate of bad trips and people flipping out on acid.

Tim Leary knew how to handle acid, Tim and the people he ran with never had a bad trip. But the average Joe on the street, what did he know? To them it sounded cool and some flipped out.

Richard Nixon thought of Tim as a subversive, Nixon was no prize either with Watergate and all. I think the only good thing Nixon did was abolish the draft in 71. If he hadn't I probably would have been drafted and gone to Nam.

What makes you so sure that your interpretations are correct? If the metaphorical one means more to me than the literal, and benefits me in some way, what does it matter? I believe the quote metaphorically, it's something I could live by, literally it does nothing for me. That's not ignorance. Ignorance is only taking things for fact and not looking at the possibilities. Things are meant to be interpreted, that's how we find ourselves. If we look at only the facts, how can we expect to delve deeper into discovery? We'd be stalled. Don't call me ignorant because I disagree with you.

I was generalizing it wasn't directed towards you.

    Alright, sorry :&

I do need to learn more about Leary though. I always liked Ken Kesey better, Leary seemed full of himself and gave himself too much credit.

Well you can always "Google" Tim Leary. There's plenty of information there.

If you want to know about Leary, read his books and then form your own opinion about him and what he was about. The net is just filled with other peoples opinions and disinformation about him. "Think for yourself and question authority" was one of his favorite lines.

"Everybody will get the Timothy Leary they deserve."
    -Timothy Leary
