I'm thinking I'm going to get a tubal ligation. I would like to hear your experiences. About a month ago, during a period, I might have passed a left over pregnancy. Along with 3 months of no period, this one was very heavy. At my age, I was really hoping to be more toward infertile. But I'm too scared to risk something like that again.
Honestly that sounds more perimenapausal. I'm due for a new IUD, and I'm thinking about a tubal, myself. Or, I could find a girlfriend, again.
It does sound like you have symptoms of perimenopause or menopause. You should be seen for that before you consider a tubal. I had a tubal done. It worked. I did regret it at certain times of my life though because it is permanent. It's not fun. They put gas in my lower abdomen to lift it, to perform the surgery and afterward that caused SO much pain. And being put to sleep was very scary too. It only left a small incision scare, hardly there. But, being that you are in your 50s, I'd talk to a doctor about all your symptoms first. I don't think a tubal would be worth it now.
My mom had her tubes tied in her early/mid thirties and she did regret it. Granted, she was much younger then. I'm not sure her regret was linked entirely to the desire to have more children later on, psychological effect, or disappointment related to her beliefs in natural medicine etc. She later had a hysterectomy due to fibroid issues. She would frequently pass large clots during her period and each cycle became heavier and heaver. Some cycles would last a couple of weeks and I remember her flow was unusually heavy. She would have to change super tampons way too frequently. These clots were probably fibroids according to her doctor.
I had mine done in my mid-thirties. There was just NO WAY I could have another pregnancy, and The Pill was just not agreeing with me. Best decision I ever made. (Well not really, but it was up there) All The Pill side effects gone and no condoms needed. It's probably a procedure that need only be done if you are sexually active - you wouldn't do it to solve uterine problems. It is a contraceptive. Nothing more. The keyhole surgery is really easy, but again I was 34. As the journals say ... consult your doctor.
I saw an OB and given my age he thought it to be unnecessary. In looking into my egg status with a blood test it showed that i have a very low egg count. Yay!!!! Im basically in menopause. Thanks for your responses,
