Yeah well we're looking at selling our house, buying land in WV and building a house totally off the grid so my hike was pushed back from 08 to 09. Sucks.

But that doesn't mean I can't spend my weekends doing the MD challenge. I'm even thinking of skipping pennsic this year for a two week hike...

Yeah we're trying to do the exact same thing you are except we're living in an apartment trying to save enough money to buy land here in vt, and then start building our off-grid homestead. Good thing about people like us though is that the land we generally like (as far out as you can get!) is usually the land nobody else wants so its cheaper.

Its not a three day hike. Its a festival where 4,000-6,000 gtake over Damascus and hang out see old friends and met new ones and party our butts off.

Check out the link in my Trail Days In Damascus VA threadin the Events and Festivals forum and you'll see what its like.

Ohhhhh... you were talking about Traildays, I must have missed a post in there somewhere....

I want a damned bog. Swampy and wet and full of crawlies!!! Cuz it will keep the Jehovah's Witnesses away from my door and ANYTHING will grow there.

Rock climbing is hard. I did that once and my hands sweated so bad I couldn't grip, and slipped down half the mountain!!!! It was a youngin, well teenager. I don't believe I even made it up :)

I could get good at hackie, if I stopped wearing skirts all the time :) Lots of high kicks and boys don't mix.... unless you like that attention :) and I get embarrassed lol

I used to hate sports. Competition and ball games, well - basically I sucked. I once showed brilliance for about a month in badminton, but then my brain developed a little further and that skill suddenly escaped me. ;)

Anyway, at school I found I enjoyed x-country more than anything, mainly because I got out of "proper sports" and indeed out of school or not I dont know. They probably dont let you do that now because of red tape nonsense.

Either way, in later life, I really am into just going for a run to keep fit, but nowadays I stick to cycling, its much more exhilirating coming downhill getting a cooling breeze having cycled up it!

I hadnt road a bike for about 15 years until last year, wished I jumped on one sooner! Plus they're quite funky styles nowadays - as well as a genuine feasible form of transport that is both green and makes you fit!

I like bike riding. I use to do it more when I lived off from Maine's coast and in the Florida Keys.

    Never heard of x-country though.

It certainly does!!! Trail Magic, its been awhile since I heard that term. The cool thing is that Faceplant lives just over an hour away from me.

    hackeysack.
get a few buds, throw in a few friends, make a circle and laugh.
not only does it work most of your body, you also get to see how uncoordinated everyone is. lots of fun

I hear ya on the sport thing, can't stand them either... the Shenendoa valley and Harpers Ferry are great to get away, camp or hike. I haven't been there in years, but have a lasting memory from way back as a teen. The place is simple enchanting.
i used to live in Fairfax,VA and take the metro into DC, not just for the museums and park stuff, but also to go on the docks and eat fresh crabs and seafood with the real old bay seasoning... but that was years ago, is the Chesapeake Bay still clean enough to trust eating the dock food anymore?

I do all the time down in south Anne Arundel County. I go to Happy Harbour Inn in Deale. Great crabcakes and fresh oysters, but I don't think the oysters come from the Chesapeake.

I live in Colorado but I do a lot of hiking, bike riding, bird watching, photography and things like that sometimes I get books on tree identification and go learn about trees, when flowers come out you can learn about them. Winter is a little more hard to find things to do.

Love that idea, if by any chance you had some info on animal tracking, some links would be better, or cheap books since most of money go to be able to make some money... sadly lol. I think it's a really wicked idea I've never taught about, me and my girlfriend go often into the wild and spend some hours looking at the same animal.
