We have what appears to be a similar situation in the UK, but since people living on both sides of the border in Ireland share a similar culture and live under the same laws, I am strongly against any form of hard border. Not living in the US, it is harder to come to a conclusion. Criminals and drug runners obviously pose a problem, but unless the wall is guarded 24/7, will it solve the problem.? I assume that they have ladders in Mexico. Drones can be blocked by jamming their control frequency, but again it would cost a fortune to install and update the equipment every time the criminals developed electronics to overcome the jamming frequencies. Increasing border security seems like a good idea, but I think that a wall may be a step too far and soon become a white elephant. It wold be interesting to hold a referendum, purely among people who live within 20 miles of the border and see what they say. That is my opinion from the UK, but clearly with our own situation, it may be slightly biased.
If a wall is needed is neither here nor there, when it was the furthest thing from American's minds until Trump said he'd build it and Mexico would pay for it. Suddenly, because some guy says we need it, we need to dish out seven billion dollars? If you want something like this you have to get public support. I don't know like, maybe spend a few years discussing it first?! Is that so insane?
Mexico is going to pay it, via The Pentagon. Somehow. But I guess that part of his campaign promise doesn't matter anymore.
Illegal border crossings are the lowest they've been in years. Is Trump’s National Emergency a Step Toward Fascism? We Can Block the Wall!: A Call to Create a Real Emergency for Trump - It's Going Down Timeline of Disruptive Actions in the Borderlands - It's Going Down
So illegal border crossings are lower during the Donalds Presidency Thanks for supporting his immigration policies
It has nothing to do with fear. It's all about his wanting his name on something big and his racist desire to keep his country as white as possible.
And, to start with, do away with the 14th amendment. Oh, and let's do away with The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA). After it was enacted in 1986, a lot of immigrants came across the border for free healthcare. Not to mention the freeloaders in this country who don't have insurance because they know the emergency room has to treat them.
It was but don't tell his voters that. Like everything it's always a fresh idea and only he could think of it. Can you name a service that an illegal can use that is an incentive? They are very limited on jobs since they have no social security number. If they go to an ER it's only human ethics and decency that give them treatment. Even then, they are afraid to go. Do you think they should get no medical treatment? I don't think their life is that good.
Entitlement programs are government programs that grant money to you because....you are entitled to them. In addition they are restricted from participation in the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Medicare, TANF, Foster Care, Adoption Assistance, the Child Care and Development Fund, Social Security (even if they pay into it), insurance subsidies, and the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. They can get emergency healthcare, school lunches, and Head Start. So all we could eliminate is one decent meal a day for a child, a decent start on school for a child, and emergency healthcare.
No, not really. It's not something that would be on the news or that officials would talk to the American people about. It still isn't being discussed, not in such a way that would explain to Americans the necessity or lack thereof. They just say "Trump wants it" or some shit. And Trump himself is completely vague as to its necessity. There's no real statistical analysis or anything being presented. He just says rapists and murderers are crossing the border. All we know for sure is that people illegally immigrate into the United States. Is it at "emergency level"? I doubt it. It's always been a problem, because it's illegal.
I'm not a genius but I'm pretty sure the wall was being discussed well before the elections like I'd even heard about it.
It has nothing to do with immigration policy. Was that a joke? Just less people are trying to sneak into that shit country than, say, in the 90’s when they were fleeing NAFTA. But seeing as you're so concerned, the orange one deports close to the same amount as obama did.
So Trump declares a national emergency to get his wall built. But no national emergencies declared over opioid abuse, gun violence, climate change and crumbling infrastructure. He's got some fucked up priorities! If the wall does get built watch it go over budget and be minimally effective. Those determined to get into this country will go under it, over it or around it. The coast guard will be busier than ever stopping shiploads of migrants!
So how did El Chapo (Joaquín Guzmán) smuggle drugs into the U.S.? 1. Tunnels 2. Airplanes 3.Submarines 4. Drones 5.Catapults 6. Canned Goods 7. Fruits and Vegatables 8. Donuts 9. 10. Cars 11.Oil from Argentina. And these are just a few examples of what's been found.
