I'm painfully aware that the vaunted "republican party" is no longer republican according to our constitution. Calling yourself a republican is like calling yourself a democrat, or a christian. Convenient, as long as nobody knows you are using your own definition of these words instead of the original creator's definition. As for democrats and democracy, both were soundly rebuked and rejected by our founding fathers and the constitution they produced as evidenced by their omission from it. This is further upheld by their own writings, some of which are enshrined in The Federalist Papers, and some elsewhere. It is interesting to note that, when asked what kind of government they'd given us, one founder said rather tersely: "A Republic, if you can keep it."

Nice try at revisionism, but most people think overproduction, speculation, and trade wars spawned by the Smoot-Hawley tariff played their part, and Herbert Hoover, his fiscal conservatism, the gold standard, didn't help. I was speaking more to infrastructure. Ahead of the depression we already had crumbling roads and falling bridges. When it kicked in the utilities were also in trouble. Even throwing money at such problems can't provide a rapid fix. Infrastructure is what joins the resources into potential sources of cascading failures. The federal government has more control of the operational side than they did 90 years ago. It took a lot of targeted federal resources to kick off the TVA, Hoover Dam and other projects to get infrastructure back from the brink.

Of course it bankrupted the country and led to the kinds of manipulations you speak of, particularly gold. During WW2 the nation's silver supply was melted down to make wire for the plutonium process magnetic accelerator which led to Fat Man (Nagasaki). It was years after the war that the coils were finally changed over to copper.

And yet, you can still get collectible silver coins!

 

I have no problem with Jesus coming back to set up HIS way of governing, because it won't have profit or political power as His motives. Only HE is perfect. And he doesn't care about our human-written Constitution either. He doesn't care about how our government works or functions. Only HIS way counts and is correct. He sees the faults of ALL political parties - EVERYWHERE - and their corrupt power grabs, LIES, bribes, "gift jobs", behind-closed-doors corrupt manipulations, who were good stewards of the earth and the environment HE created for us, cheating in elections / gerrymandering / voter suppression, golden parachutes, getting faaaat pay and retirement pensions on the taxpayers' tab, and what politicians were doing the CORRECT, JUST things for WHOM,.etc., etc.

I'll ask YOU - how do you think the indifferent, business & profit first Republicans will feel when Jesus doesn't care about money, but emphasizes loving and caring for others FIRST?? Jesus cares about LOVE - not any political party claims or posturing. He loves ALL PEOPLE that HE created - not just rich white people, or white people rather than non-white folks. Some ideas of Christian - are NOT very Christ-like. Doesn't John the Baptist warn people to "Repent, and make straight the way of the Lord"?? Repent means to turn away from bad, sinful, selfish ways.

As for Trump claiming to be Christian ……………………. well ……………….. I've not see any scripture that advises men to "just grab 'em by the pussy." or "I just move on 'em like a bitch. I just start kissing them - I don't even wait."

And it seems to me when I read scripture, that Jesus teaches that we should be humble - have humility. And how many people think Trump is steeped in humility??? I believe both Obama's have more humility in their bowel movements than Trump has in all of him. Trump can't stop self-aggrandizing & congratulating himself on every topic, claiming he's the best president ever, a "very stable genius", "people can't believe how smart I am, and that I get these things", "I know more about viruses than anyone - believe me", " I know more than all these generals - believe me", etc. etc. Humble man???

I'll throw another thought your way ………. Jesus loved, cured, and cared for everyone, without cost or heritage proof, even loving and forgiving the soldiers who drove the nails into his hands and feet. He was / IS the perfect ideal of humility - serving others always. He even instructed His apostles that whoever wants to be great in the Kingdom should make himself the servant of all others. The least shall be first, and the first shall be last. How will the uncaring, indifferent, for-profit, corporate rich folks react to Jesus form of rule where one doesn't have to have money or certain inside connections, or belong to a certain political party or secret society to be cared for??? (The golden rules - Love God above all else, and love your neighbor as yourself.) God does NOT care about money, or who has the most. God is all about LOVE. Per scripture - He cares for the least of His people the most. The parable of the good Samaritan - how many people passed by the beaten, injured, robbed man ……….. uncaring and indifferent to his plight, until a Samaritan came to his aid - going out of his way to help.

Are you a christian? If so, what were YOU before that...? Everyone came from somewhere, and I've noticed that, as we mature, or ideas and behavior change. I'm not so concerned about where Trump came from or what he WAS as I am about where he's taking us. Moses killed a man and ran away for 40 years before coming back to do what God created him to do. Nebachedneezer was quite the tyrant, too, until God humbled him and taught him to be and do what God wanted. David was an adulterer and a murderer, and God still used him to become one of the greatest kings Israel ever knew, if not THE greatest.

I've been told that a guy said that Trump would go into the White House whispering the name of Jesus, but AFTER he got in he would SHOUT it out loud. Change. I doubt he'd tell someone to "grab'em by the pussy" today. And I also think that, no matter what he does, someone will be whining about it. Probably because he hurt their itty-bitty little feelings.

And here is something we can agree on. We are all learning (hopefully), and we all have different experiences and therefore different perspectives. Try not to hate someone just because they sin differently than you do. One person's sin isn't superior to anothers. It wouldn't astonish me to find we are ALL very wrong regarding a lot of things we think.
