"Many countries said they were going to listen to the WHO and they have problems now the likes of which they cannot believe," Trump continues.

He adds: "The world received all sorts of false information about misinformation and mortality."

If the WHO had gone to China to oversee the outbreak, mores lives would have been saved, he claims, adding that "their reliance on China's disclosures... likely caused a 20-fold increase in cases worldwide and it may be much more than that."

"So much death has been caused by their mistakes," he says"

Trump calls for halt to US funding for World Health Organization amid coronavirus outbreak

In the article, the President congratulates his foresight and wherewithal in virus response, and claims it's his strategy that saved countless lives. Meanwhile, 25,000 are dead. And this will likely cost more lives as experts and scientists are laid off with no funding for their salaries.

The World Health Organization funding has been shut down. What???

It's funny because I thought the Chinese job of isolating the virus in Wuhan was a diligent effort. Clearly though, the issue they had with Dr. Li Wenliang was misguided. Even so, there were warning signs.

I adamantly feel that the World Health Organization should continue to be funded. This is a huge mistake. Trump is outside his purview and is overstepping.

^^^^ Trump is outside his (literally) gold-plated penthouse in NYC, or his gold-plated palace at Mara-Lago. It's all a foreign reality out here to him. So he tailors his own reality which must - for him - include people constantly praising him and kissing his ass. Note his disdain toward Dem governors for speaking the truth, and his "oversight" of Fed. money being allocated in larger percentages to red states than blue states.

This waste is as corrupt, narcissistic, self-centered and self-serving as anyone I've ever seen in my entire life. He'll be a GIANT STAIN in the history books.

US is going to open up parts of the country earlier than you think. Not a whole lot of sense locking down low population density areas

  11. It seems like the purpose of this thread has been to take the heat off of China, you know, for poisoning the planet. And then assigning ALL of the blame for this on Trump.

This is why the hard left narrative fails so often, there's no basis in reality AND the "agenda" comes shining through every time.

What's it going to be like when Trump is elected again? <------ Bait

I think that our response, however effective, was delayed for several weeks during which the number of cases was allowed to increase to an unacceptable level. How many cases before social distancing was implemented? Who knows...

I'm not sure where the line is between "left" & "hard-left", and I hate to label anything, but I think that progressive and liberal voters and politicians are referring to data derived based on what we know about society. That data probably comes from sociologists. It's basically from what we know about society and culture. I don't think it should be discredited. Questioned, sure. But to rule out sociological/anthropological data sets is to walk blindly...

Unhappy about being accused of negligence and blamed for the numbers infected and dying of Covid - 19, Hephatrump is trying to divert blame and attention onto the World Health Organisation (part of United Nations).

Trump condemned after moving to halt payments to World Health Organisation

    PA
    Apr 15th 2020 7:41AM
Donald Trump has been condemned around the world after saying he was cutting off US payments to the World Health Organisation during the coronavirus pandemic, accusing the body of failing to do enough to stop the virus from spreading.

The US president claimed the outbreak could have been contained at its source and that lives could have been saved if the UN health agency had done a better job investigating early reports coming out of China.

European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the 27-nation EU "deeply" regrets the suspension of funds and added that the WHO is "needed more than ever" to combat the pandemic.

He called for measures to promote unity instead of division, and said: "Only by joining forces can we overcome this crisis that knows no borders."

A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said the country is "seriously concerned" about the US decision, telling reporters: "As the most authoritative and professional international institution in the field of global public health security, the WHO plays an irreplaceable role in responding to the global public health crisis."

Spokesman Zhao Lijian said the US move will "weaken the WHO's capabilities and undermine international co-operation in fighting the epidemic".

UN secretary-feneral Antonio Guterres responded to Mr Trump's announcement by saying now is not the time to end support, calling the WHO "absolutely critical" to the global effort to combat Covid-19.

Mr Guterres said the appropriate time for a review is "once we have finally turned the page on this pandemic".

German foreign minister Heiko Maas said: "Placing blame doesn't help. Strengthening the UN, in particular the underfunded WHO, is a better investment, for example to develop and distribute tests and vaccines."

They all spoke out after Mr Trump told a briefing on Tuesday: "The WHO failed in its basic duty and must be held accountable."

The US contributed nearly 900 million dollars (£720 million) to the WHO's budget for 2018-19, according to the agency's website. That represents a fifth of its total budget for those years.

Washington gave nearly three-quarters of the funds in "specified voluntary contributions" and the rest in "assessed" funding as part of the commitment to UN institutions.

Last week, Mr Trump blasted the WHO for being "China-centric" and alleging that it had "criticised" his ban on travel from China as the Covid-19 outbreak was spreading from the city of Wuhan.

The WHO generally takes care not to criticise countries on their national policies, and it was not immediately clear what specific criticism the president was alluding to.

Mr Trump himself showed deference to China at the beginning stages of the outbreak.

"China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus," he tweeted on January 24.

"The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi!"

The American Medical Association immediately called on Mr Trump to reconsider his decision.

"During the worst public health crisis in a century, halting funding to the World Health Organisation is a dangerous step in the wrong direction that will not make defeating Covid-19 easier," AMA president Patrice A Harris said.

Trump is on video / audio tape praising & congratulating President Xi Jinping for his wonderful handling of, and transparency about, the Covid-19 virus back in March. Trump took the heat off China himself by those comments. (And Trump is never wrong??) How can Trump make such comments (in his aura of "genius") and then you LEMMINGS defend his bungling and condemn awake people for seeing factual truth??? Video / audio tape, boys - it doesn't lie.
The evidence is ALL RECORDED, trolls.

I want to see a cartoon of the little boy holding his finger in the dike to plug a "small" leak, while other leaks are popping out all over the rest of the dike. Trump and his "magically going away" finger - "I have this totally under control" - would be in the place of the little boy. The dike and the huge volume it contained would be the Covid-19 pandemic.

His arrogance has cost lives and TONS of money / business.

    Shifting the blame.
Trump did everything he accuses the WHO of doing, except his response was perfect.

  19. So emotional. Its as if you expect the president to be popular. It also seems like you buy everything the media feeds you.

  20. What did Trump try to hide? The WHO was obviously downplaying this at China's behest. And what do you know, China was smart enough to stock up on medical supplies while telling everyone else they had it under control. And what WERE all those industrial incinerators for? And that sulfur dioxide plume? So many Chinese mysteries here.

What's humorous is how long we have known China was a cruel and oppressive nation, but somehow Trump is worse. Laughable if it wasn't so pitiful.
