It's a good thing there are flu shots though, right?

Yeah, which means no peeking. No pressing that little button to see what I said. Stay strong

As for the young, it's their world now

I'm actually a member of Gen Y apparently.

But yeah.. I liked his post. It feels like infighting, honestly. That's why I brought it up. It's the ideology of the individual that I find disagreeable; not the age group. Maybe not the best example, but even in my own family my parents were born in the 1940s which makes them of the baby boom. They probably didn't vote for Sanders, which irritated me. But then again, plenty of college aged people didn't even show up to vote at all.

I liked that post of hotwater and I'm not a boomer either. VGs just trying to rile some people up as usual.
Seems clear a shitload of younger people see the point of and support these strong measures. And selfishness is far from always the reason either. That could be projected just as easily on the people who find the economy more important than the wellbeing of anyone above 65 and other people who are above average at risk of becoming seriously ill at best, but is just as pointless and also not fair.

Your country is like mine though. Didn't do the full lockdown thing, that balance between number of people dying and extra industries going bust

If you were from a country in full lockdown with military patrolling the streets, it would be one thing. But you can't really claim impartiality if not

Anyway, we will be able to work out soon a far clearer picture of what that magic number for countries that took no measures would have been in temperate and subtropical zones.

Already fairly obvious it just can't spread fast enough in the earth's tropical regions

It was "Don't trust anyone over 30", Jack Weinberg of the Free Speech Movement.

Well, 150,000 cases in NY, 39 days since your first case, assuming starting off from a solitary case, which wasn't the case, that's only a growth rate of 0.36.

Assume 4 times that many infected, and growth rate still comes out at 0.4, we are talking exponential growth

Well below the 1.0 for a definition of a pandemic; that being a positive growth rate above 1.0 . And that's at that Lattitude and the population density NY has

I know 1900 deaths a day currently sounds crazy. But at an R0 of 2.2, you should be at 40,000 deaths a day now, with the peak being just under 70,000 deaths a day for the whole US

Which means this social distancing stuff everywhere else in the world except the large cities is a waste of time

And I told you all that a month ago, it's only going to be at best 3,4 times more infectious than the seasonal flu

And the CDCs estimate for seasonal flu deaths is 12,000 to 60,000 a season

150,000 cases in NY, as I said, if it's actually 4 times that, that are actually infected, growth rate is still 0.4, well under 1.0

NY hasn't been locked down long enough to make that much of an impact yet

Trump and all his lemmings now want to take credit for taking steps he was advised to take much earlier - like back in late November when health experts briefed his administration on the seriousness of the corona virus. Trump made a joke out of the corona virus with all his publicly televised comments, statements, and mocking attitude. It was going to "magically disappear" - ".....it's only one person from China" - "We have it under control" - "It's just another flu, go on with your lives, maybe go to work...…"

Then it exploded on his watch and reality kicked him in the balls. Even as Dr. Fauci, Dr. Gottlieb, and other real experts on infectious diseases were urging Trump to take stronger steps to control the spread, Trump resisted their every suggestion. He even stopped Dr. Fauci from answering a reporter's question at a press briefing. It was again on national TV - so it can't be denied and spun. State and local health officials followed what Dr. Fauci and other experts were saying, and shut down cities, towns, parks, businesses, mass transit, schools, etc. Their efforts - not Trump's - are what's slowing the spread and flattening the curve - to whatever degree that's happening.

But as the numbers begin to slow ………….. Trump is in his usual position - taking credit where others have done the work. The reality of the corona virus ran him over like a freight train, but he wants to lay claim to any slice of good news like he was the source of those good news reports. Remember …… HE wanted to open up everything in the country by Easter!!!

I wish he'd lead all his blind lemmings to random gas pumps, door handles, and ATM's to lick all of those items and show them just how brave and correct he is on the virus. Screw those real experts - they have DONNY-BOY - who said he knows more about viruses than anyone - "believe me." ( this statement of Trump's was also directed at the military generals and at global climate scientists!! ) He told us himself, he's a "very stable genius."
