"US Senate Republicans have proposed spending an additional $1tn (£776bn) to address the economic damage caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The plan includes $100bn for schools and issuing stimulus payments of up to $1,200 to most Americans. Under the plan, the payment would replace a $600 boost to unemployment benefits during the pandemic. The proposal sets the stage for negotiations with Democrats who have called it "totally inadequate". Republicans introduce $1tn pandemic recovery plan
"(CNN)Melania Trump announced Monday she will oversee a renovation of the White House Rose Garden, overhauling the iconic greenspace adjacent to the Oval Office and West Wing. Trump intends to restore the space to more resemble the original design and formation of the Rose Garden, established by President John F. Kennedy, and implemented in 1962 by horticulturist and philanthropist Rachel "Bunny" Mellon. The renovation, which will include excavation, could take several weeks, according to a source familiar with the timeline, and the Rose Garden will, during that time, be out of commission for use" Melania Trump announces Rose Garden renovation - CNNPolitics
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I’m sure the former second lady, and soon to be first lady of the white house Jill Biden will have some input.
Maybe after he makes a big deal of finding people with a strong Republican voting history and talking about "a return to civility". His whole thing is compromise to the point that his side gets nothing. If Hillary has been dead for 10 years Alex Jones is still going to say she is not dead and running a secret communist pizza gate cult to take away guns. Biden would be wise to just ignore her if he really wants to be the logical one.
The case for hiring Hillary Clinton as the secretary of state is simple. It’s all about pissing off everyone from the deplorables, to FOX News, to the Russians who trashed her back in 2016.
It would be kind of nice to throw back a few "she's in office get over it" or "Biden is still YOUR president and you owe him respect or you can leave". We got so much of it with Trump.
The latest I have on the stimulus is that I was wrong about leaving out the dependent adults and college people. Those who can bel claimed by someone else as dependents would be compensated under the proposed legislation. It's not entirely clear if they would be getting a check though, or if the person claiming them as a dependent would be compensated. Also, it may be either $1,200 or $500 for a dependent this time depending on who gets their way. Mnuchin and I would imagine most republicans would like to use the previous system for the economic payouts that is already in place. That is a double edged sword because while it will theoretically get checks out faster because less legislation will need to be written, not only will not everyone agree to it, but like I said before not everyone got checks with the previous system in place. I think the calculated response should be to do the legislation piecemeal. Not one person I know wants to wait for the $1,200 but what there can be no agreement on it if the republicans are asking to leave out people with non-citizen spouses, adult dependents, or people who work and pay taxes but have no social security number for one of many reasons. For that reason, it would seem the stimulus checks should wait, and the unemployment & moratorium on evictions should be extended first.
The US has recruited from Europe for decades. These smart Europeans who get scholarships are enticed to stay in America because of the benefits. There used to be several. It's a dream for many to live in New York like Americans want to live in Paris. NASA and Lockheed got a huge amount of staff this way. Those are 2 goverment agencies who made America "great" at one time. Now they will stay in Europe giving their skill and knowledge to socialism. Trump was very clear it was only poor brown immigrants that are unwelcome. Good Aryan Europeans were fine. Apparently not. ICE: Foreign Students Must Leave The U.S. If Their Colleges Go Online-Only This Fall Foreign students attending U.S. colleges that will operate entirely online this fall semester cannot remain in the country to do so, according to new regulations released Monday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. As college students across the United States and around the world contemplate what their upcoming semester might look like, the federal guidance limits options for international students and leaves them with an uncomfortable choice: attend in-person classes during a pandemic or take them online from another country. And for students enrolled in schools that have already announced plans to operate fully online, there is no choice. Under the new rules, the State Department will not issue them visas, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection will not allow them to enter the country. "Active students currently in the United States enrolled in such programs must depart the country or take other measures, such as transferring to a school with in-person instruction to remain in lawful status," read a release from ICE's Student and Exchange Visitor Program. "If not, they may face immigration consequences including, but not limited to, the initiation of removal proceedings."
The federal gov't should give $600/month to unemployed people and $200/month hazard pay to those who go back to work in unsafe conditions.
I wonder what our antipodean knuckle dragging anthropoid will make of this little snippet of news ??? Trump Clings To Unproven Treatments As US Sinks Deeper Into Pandemic Frustrated with his low approval ratings, the president is once again leaning in to hydroxychloroquine as a Covid-19 treatment. Donald Trump’s press conference quickly unravelled on Tuesday as he struggled to defend a video he’d retweeted that is full of false claims about the coronavirus and complained about his low approval rating. Reporters asked Trump repeated questions about his continued support for hydroxychloroquine as a Covid-19 treatment a day after he retweeted several conspiracy theories about the drug. Multiple clinical trials have found hydroxychloroquine is not an effective coronavirus treatment, despite the president’s suggestions to the contrary. “Many doctors think it is extremely successful,” Trump claimed when asked about the retweets, adding, “I happen to believe in it. I would take it. As you know, I took it for a 14-day period, and I’m here. ... It’s safe. It doesn’t cause problems.” Trump was also forced to answer for a video he retweeted on Monday that showed a group of self-proclaimed medical experts claiming that social distancing and masks were not necessary to curb the spread of Covid-19 and alleging that officials were suppressing the use of hydroxychloroquine for political reasons. The event was hosted and funded by the right-wing nonprofit Tea Party Patriots, which has been organising projects to promote that narrative. A reporter pointed out to Trump ― who’d just recently encouraged Americans to wear protective masks (in line with Dr Anthony Fauci and other real experts in infectious diseases) ― that one of the main doctors featured in the video is a full-blown conspiracy theorist: “She’s also made videos saying that doctors make medicine using DNA from aliens and that they’re trying to create a vaccine to make you immune from becoming religious.” The president all but shrugged his shoulders. Alex Wong via Getty Images “I happen to believe in it. I would take it," President Donald Trump said of hydroxychloroquine on Tuesday. “She was on air, along with many other doctors,” Trump said. “They were big fans of hydroxychloroquine, and I thought she was very impressive. ... She said that she’s had tremendous success with hundreds of different patients.” In reality, studies have found that hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malarial drug, is not effective for Covid-19 treatment or prevention. After Trump began touting it in March, leading to panic-buying of the medication, the Food and Drug Administration had to post a caution against anyone using it to treat Covid-19 outside a hospital or clinical setting ― because it can trigger serious heart rhythm problems. The doctors speaking in the video presented no evidence of any patients they’ve successfully treated. After fumbling through his answer about the video, Trump quickly walked off the podium, ending the briefing after less than 30 minutes. In the past, his coronavirus-related briefings have lasted for over an hour. But the president appeared eager to wrap up the event on Tuesday, complaining several times that he was being unfairly maligned. At one point he suggested that health experts were not backing hydroxychloroquine to spite him. “It doesn’t seem to be too popular,” Trump said of the drug. “You know why? Because I recommend it. When I recommend something, they like to say don’t use it.” Trump, who typically maintains that he’s very well-liked by voters, also complained to reporters that Fauci, the country’s leading infectious disease expert who frequently contradicts Trump, is more popular than he is. “He’s got this high approval rating, so why don’t I have a high approval rating with respect ― and the administration ― with respect to the virus? We should have it very high,” Trump said. “They’re highly thought of,” he said of Fauci and Dr Deborah Birx, who are both on the White House’s coronavirus task force. “But nobody likes me. It can only be my personality, that’s all.” Only about one-third of the public approves of the federal government’s response to the pandemic, a new HuffPost/YouGov survey found last week, marking a new low. Trump’s ratings on the pandemic are similarly dismal, with just 38% of the public approving and 58% disapproving.
Oooooohhh Didn't I do well ??? - seems I've managed to shut our antipodean knuckle dragging anthropoid up - seems I've left him speechless over Hephatrump's latest outburst !!!
