You said, "Why in 2024, people in the US need to carry guns completely baffles me." Did you mean, "Why in 2024, POLICE in the US need to carry guns completely baffles me."?
It’s not complicated…..the number of people running around with guns in the US is simply insane. End result of right wing nuts, the NRA, and the gun companies. I used to hunt, carried a weapon at work in the woods ….never once felt the need for for an assault rifle or 30 round clip tho.
The Department of Education was created in 1980, not the 70s. Now, assuming you are correct that education has gotten worse since the DOE was formed; could you please tell us how you reached that conclusion? What exactly did the DOE do that made education get worse?
The police used to carry a 9mm or .38 Special sidearm and maybe a shotgun mounted in their patrol car or locked in the trunk. That changed with the North Hollywood shootout in 1997. Two men wearing body armor and armed with Norinco Type 56 rifles, a fully automatic Bushmaster XM-15 Dissipator with a 100-round drum magazine, three fully automatic Heckler & Koch HK91 rifles with drum magazines and a Beretta 92FS pistol robbed a bank. When police showed up they found that their bullets bounced off the body armor and they were out gunned by the two men. A Swat team appeared with an armored car and found their weapons were also useless. A helicopter had to retreat as it could not withstand the fire from the two men. The two men fired over 1,000 rounds and the police over 600 and were only taken out after one was shot in an unprotected area of his leg and the other committed suicide. Twelve police officers and eight civilians were wounded. After this the police across the nation started to carry heavier weapons....to combat the heavily armed civilian populace which law enforcement found had better weapons than they did. That's why in 2024, POLICE in the US need to carry guns.
Andy Griffith was fictional Mayberry small town 60s. I live in a place pretty much like that. But unfortunately this is Dystopia 21st century. When the crooks go back to the Future, so can we!
Technically, since there was no year zero, 1980 was the last year of the 1970s. I reached that conclusion from math and reading scores dropping since the formation of DOE.
Average reading and mathematics scale scores on the long-term trend National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP): Selected years, 1971 through 2022 The 2020 drops were from COVID.
Made in China? 34% tariff!! Trump tariffs live: China hits US with 34% tariff amid stock market meltdown
It's actually 54% . Let's say you want to but a Westinghouse generator, designed in the U.S., made in china. About $500.00. 54% of 500 is 270. So add $270 to $500, and you will now pay $770 for a $500 dollar generator.
Funny thing is, there no longer is any 'Westinghouse".... It's only the name that is marketed. The only true Westinghouse business existing is Wesco air brakes...
