It was not a country here until the Europeans made it one. A lot of the land here was fought over by different tribes of Native Americans so it's really not the same.

There are tons of jobs that need to be filled here. There's tons of space. The only problem with undocumented immigration are the arbitrary limits when we still have empty land and tons of jobs.

 

They also don't get taxed when they work. I used to live in a very dense undocumented Mexican area and it was pretty messed up how everyone else got taxed and they didn't.

 

We're getting off topic but the issue isn't legal vs illegal, it's how in depth and expensive legal immigration is. You don't just walk through Ellis Island anymore. It's a legnthy and expensive process that benefits those with money. Essentially, we're against illegal immigrants because they're the poor ones. And that's the real issue. It's a class thing. We'll take the brightest and wealthiest you've got, but your huddled masses yearning to be free? That's soooooo 19th century

 

They don't get taxed because of a Reagan era rule requiring tax-paying employers to require work visas. The obvious solution is to grant more work visas.

 

I disagree. I think we have enough poor Americans here who need jobs rather then bringing in other people from other countries.

Many different tribes fought over different lands in what is now the USA and they all didn't get along and share it. It was not considered a country back then. Does it matter who fought more? They fought for it and do you have proof Europeans fought more for it?

It's not even strictly a class thing. I'm in tech and it's still really difficult for qualified migrant tech workers to keep working.

One of my co-workers wife has a masters in machine learning. She would be snatched up by a recruiter in seconds. But because they're both immigrants and he's the one with the work visa, she has to be a house wife.

Our immigration system is just arbitrary. We don't need walls. We need 21st century rules.

 

I just want to add that illegal immigrants who use fake social security numbers do pay income taxes.
And those that dont pay income taxes are taxed in other ways, like sales tax.
