When then PBS you are becoming a Jesus! That is a beautiful thing! I know its all inside you, I have had very profound states while meditating. They are similar, yet totally different from the psychedelic experience though. It feels more personal without the psychedelics. I'm working towards the day where ill have to do to trip my balls off is sit down in a quiet room and close my eyes.
Alan Watts said of psychedelics: "when you get the message, hang up the phone," meaning that once the same thoughts and awareness recur in every trip, you should stop pursuing the magic. I can't say I advocate every completely stopping usage, but considerable rest periods can't be a bad thing either. I try to only use psychedelics when I feel there is a lot of unacknowledged tension in my life or I am hoping to gain some perspective on a vital artistic problem (this reason is always more fickle). After my first major revelation, I definitely abused the few chemicals available to me, and learned that, for me, at least a month between sessions is advisable. It's the same basic principle with responsibly using any drug: don't let it lead you, constantly chasing what it felt like the first few times. The more eager you are for such magic, the less likely you are to feel it.
Then why, with all due respect, do many of your posts sound condescending and arrogant? I thought "awareness" would have tempered that.
Because I, like you, am only human and are still in the process of learning and growing. I will admit I tend to lose patience with people who view psychedelics as some super shortcut to spirituality, or put forth personal experience as universal fact. When confronted with infantile responses to things I admit I indulge in a bit schoolyard tactics in dealing with such people. I feel that the overall meaning of my posts in this particular forum pretty clearly convey that I am of the opinion that these type of substances are valuable and the experiences they elicit are valuable as well. But given that, it is also very important to note that I believe that such things also need to be tempered with the science and facts relating to them. For example, what biochemical process's are taking place that could give a person the perception of other realms or entity's. I'm not saying that those realms or entity's don't exist "out there", just that before accepting them as "real" we need a better understanding of what is going on in the brain that could elicit such responses before accepting them as actually existing. That is actually how I feel Terrence McKenna and John Lilly both lost a great deal of credibilty in the scientific community. You may also note that unless citing actual research or verifiable facts, I very clearly acknowledge when I am voicing personal opinion, such as the above. My statements that you quoted were in no means meant to convey that I was somehow more spiritually enlightened or advanced than anyone else in these forums. I was merely stating in response to inthydreams remark that it was a limiting viewpoint and that it is very possible to experience much of the positive effects on awareness without the ingestion of some psychedelic substance. I never postulated that the altered states of awareness I have experienced without drugs were all positive or that the net effect was that they produced a better me, just that they were attained without the aid of drugs. I feel maybe your conclusion that I somehow should be "better" as you would define it is based more on your personal preconceptions of what altered awareness is. You may take my comments as being condescending and arrogent, others have found them informative and useful. I apologize if you feel the preceding was meant to be in any way condescending towards you personaly. I'm just trying to clearly state what I mean. :cheers2:
Tripping is at the top of the drug pyramid. "Use Sparingly!" The magic is still growing and growing for me.
