"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court."

"The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted."

    U.S. CONSTITUTION, ARTICLE III, SECTION 3, CLAUSES 1 & 2.

The U.S. definition of treason is very limited. In europe at the time, simply harming your monarch or sovereign was an act of treason. Not so in the U.S.

Also, it says "...but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted...." In ancient England, when a person was found guilty of treason, their very blood was deemed corrupt. This meant they took away the wealth and titles of your family members too. In the U.S. this injustice practice is abolished, because no one should be held accountable for the crimes of their ancestors, if they are in fact innocent of the crime themselves. Although up until the time the traitor (as their called) is executed, they can take away their assets. After that, it becomes their children's inheritance. So they must leave it alone (i.e., "...except during the Life of the Person attainted...."). And BTW, "attainder" is simply an obsolete word for traitor, since such a person bore the "taint" or mark of infamy for treason. We don't use that word, or the word "traitor" anymore. But the term still appears in the U.S. Constitution.

Another interesting note. Did you know that treason is one of only three crimes that must require an overt act? The other two are attempt and conspiracy. Now that would make a good question on the exam in a law class. Because who would know that? People just don't get arrested for treason anymore, you know.

But they should. Nothing quite says "Failed State" like a bunch of insurrectionists who actively participated in a failed coup d'etat still being allowed a seat in the government they tried to overthrow.

Would the US function better, if every state had home rule and their ministers appointed a president to hold the whole thing together, either one of them, or an outsider.

At the moment, it seems to be the classic case of everybody leaving things to somebody and nobody knowing what anybody is doing.
Those guys Everybody, Somebody, Nobody and Anybody, must be a bunch of morons.

The act of 'governance' has all but disappeared from thought in most of America.

The thing that is sweeping the nation is dividing us all with nothing but social issues being brought up over and over again. Populists screaming for attention, fabulists lying their way into elected office, and media stars dictating policy are the new normal.

The four name thing is a confusing issue for non-latinos. And yes, they can use them differently if they chose for casual things, but not for legal things in a Latin country.

I think it goes: First name, Middle name, Mother's last name, Father's last name. When they anglicize it, they just drop the mother's name. It seems somewhat less sexist to include the mother's maiden name, no?

I'd say the first two as they make themselves seem more important. Being somebody and everyone is quite enough!

This world really is run by a bunch of puppet morons. Donald trump got his brain in gear and spilt the beans about the truth regarding China, so he had to go.

People often mock us, but our late Queen did a lot to stabilise our country and was respected internationally.
I see her by that day when a guy broke into her bedroom. She sat with him until he was taken away, then ensured that he had the correct psychiatric help. To her, he was one of our citizens. Had the same happened in the US, he would probably died in a hail of bullets.
My late father always talked about that ambulance driver during WW2 who spent her spare time rebuilding engines. Particularly when a guy said to him, "Lizzy, a princess and our future queen, pull the other leg".
