Hey everyone My name is Corrine. I'm interested in venturing off throughout the state of California starting in Central San Diego in the very near future. San Fran Bay area will be the direction that I am headed. I have decided to let go off all the comforts of home, work, consistency, and most of all the conformity to society. I have truly reached a point in my life where I no longer am content with just waiting, saving and planning. Instead of allowing the fear of the unknown prevent me from pursing travel and being completely free, I am going to embrace all that is ahead of me. Meeting new, likeminded individuals along my way is something I look forward to! I am totally up for suggestions with locations and would love to hear some places that I must go to! Peace, love, and happiness. ~ Corrine
If you aren't in a hurry, take Hwy 1 (coastal hwy). You won't regret it. But make sure you gas up and get whatever supplies you need before you pass San Simeon or so. There are only a few very small towns between there and the Monterey/Carmel area and everything is more expensive because it costs more to deliver supplies to those areas. I would also make sure you drive through Carmel and check it out. I call it the enchanted village. Very unique houses with no street addresses. My wife has family there and we enjoy visiting (in fact, I will be there next week). There are no box or chain stores at all. Everything is locally owned and operated. Monterey is pretty cool too. Anyway, have fun. If you're in more of a hurry then you should probably take 101. The coastal hwy is a lot slower going because it's so hilly and curvy but the scenery is incredible.
Also, you can camp along the way up there. There are some decent campgrounds that are practically right on the ocean (some actually are right on the ocean). Edit to say....make sure you make reservations if you're going to camp. The campgrounds are very popular and well-booked.
Ezm8. Not hoping or expecting anything. I'm going to pursue my destined path with happiness and love. Staying true and honest with myself and others and truly being free to any restrictions and commitments.
Also...the state parks along the way are pretty cool. If you pay for one park, you can get into any other park for free on the same day with the same pass. Point Lobos is beautiful. It's up near Carmel.
It is beautiful but a wet suit is advisable for kayaking or anything like that. The water is much colder than down south.
It sounds like you are pursuing a dream with a sense of hippie idealism. I wish you the best on that journey. I also think it would be wise to add a bit of punk-rock reality to how you handle this. It sounds like you might be thinking of camping out, hitch hiking, etc. There's an element of danger in that for anyone, but especially for women traveling alone. I remember seeing this girl who was a panhandler. I think she had a sign that said "spare change or a smile". She was a sweet girl, pretty too. I was heartbroken but not that surprised when I found out that she had been gang raped, then stabbed to death. Likewise, there were many idealistic young people who participated in urban encampments in the occupy movement. At occupy boston, for example, there were also at least two level 3 sex offenders there, and not surprisingly, multiple rapes. It's possible for you to pursue this dream and for it all to work out just fine. It's also possible for some really fucked-up shit to happen. If you hitch hike, you may want to carry a knife and be ready to use it. There are also some on-line ride sharing services. I don't know how good they are, but they might be a little safer, so if you have a smart phone with you, you could access them. It might help to talk to some people who have done the same thing and know the ropes. One piece of advice that I've heard is stay out of the cities. Good luck and best wishes to you on whatever path you choose.
Yup. Bad stuff can happen. My wife and daughter are driving to Carmel right now and staying in hotels just for this reason. I'll fly out at the end of the week and we will camp on the way back. They didn't feel safe camping by themselves.
Ezm8, I really appreciate your concern and words of wisdom. I guess I should have definitely mentioned that I will not be completely alone. My brother will be along for the adventures as well. I know though, even traveling with someone else something could happen but if I make good decisions and put positive vibes out in the universe I have faith that everything will occur as it is meant to be.
I will be moving to California very soon from Alaska. Would love to get to know some like minded people before I get there. Maybe we can meet up..?
