It would have to be fairly well colonized (not over-colonized) and that won't happen in my lifetime. But I hope it becomes an option in the future. All things considered I don't want the human race to go extinct. We have great potential as a species and I think given enough time we'll realize that potential.
I've given this question a lot of thought... Ultimately I think I'd prefer exploration over colonization though. I mean just within our own solar system... I've often dreamed of seeing Saturn's rings or the great storms of Jupiter in person with my own eyes.
i support the idea, but i don't think it's really for me. small town life annoys me, and i feel like being one of the first colonizers of a new planet would be the ultimate small town experience, without even a realistic means of taking a vacation.
If there’s a decent mall and they have sushi, sure. Being serious, I would definitely like to travel to another planet. Not being a risk taker, I would make this an exception.
i haven't really paid any attention to the pilgrims since elementary school. but any situation of colonizing a new land seems kind of cool for the exploration and discovery portion, and just fucking miserable for the rest of your life.
obviously it would depend on what other planet, and if i could actually get there alive. but given sufficient foreknowledge, and choice based upon it of both, hell yes! all of my previous lives were on planets orbiting other suns, many of which, i would overwhelmingly prefer to this one. nothing against the trees and little furry creatures here on this one, but the less said about the dominant culture of its dominant sapient species the better. i would damd sure move to the kind of world i can create in my own mind in a finely diced millisecond.
Depends on what Earth is like. If people on Earth are really dumb, then I suppose I would go to another planet. So I guess, to answer your question, yes I would go to a different planet.
Another parallel is the early American pioneers heading west. They were largely people who wanted to get away from civilization. Many lived lonely lives, whether on an isolated farm or in the mountains. But these loners paved the way for more people to settle the west. The first people to live on other planets will be like this, and eventually others will join them once towns have been established. Then cities. Hope we don't mess up another planet's environment like we did Earth's.
there seems to be a lot of non-differentiation between 'going to' and 'immigrating to' also of speaking of earth as if america were or somehow represented the entire planet. i'll go anyplace that is green, the people there don't hate logic or consideration, and love trains. and if the people there don't look anything like humans, all the better.
