    it's about time!

    i hope this goes through.

generally i'm not for the government telling people what to put in their own bodies, but this i think would be good. it's terribly hard to avoid all sources of trans fat while eating a modern diet.

While I like the idea of promoting healthful eating, I don't like the idea of the government dictating what we can and can't eat. Treading a slippery slope here.

Yeah, If I want to market and eat pure poison, I should have that right and to hell with the general population being snowed into thinking it's ok for consumption.

I get your point. Maybe the FDA is justified in this instance, maybe it isn't. Either way, banning one thing makes it that much easier to regulate things in the future, things that may or may not be quite so justified.

Ideally, people would be aware of what they put into their bodies. They would read information that is widely available--it's not like any of us were unaware that trans fats are bad. Some responsibility has to be placed on the consumer here. If we weren't purchasing items made with trans fats, they simply wouldn't be produced. No federal ban required.

Pure poison? That label cuts both ways, my friend, and can be used to ban so much more.

I cannot wait to be self sufficient. Its my life goal. Why is it my life goal? to avoid a stake in decisions like this.

What good is the word moderation when they remove the option completely.

People are already lazy about their choices, if no one wants to take the time to build self restraint then why not just spoon feed restraint to them?....................................................................Because it should be our damned choice man!

It's not about that. It's about banning companies from putting trans fats in the foods we eat. The stuff is in too many foods. People aren't just choosing to consume trans fats. Avoiding trans fats is like trying to avoid products made in China. You won't be eating much if you avoid all trans fats.

well, a lot of people choose to be unhealthy so therefor you loose your freedom of choice.

    Makes sense.....right??

it's not about being unhealthy. if i developed any complications or even small issues at all, i'd stop consuming what my body couldn't handle. but i have nothing. and if this thing was as clear cut as trans fats producing health complications for everyone, i'd maybe see some logic in banning them. but it's not that. this whole thing comes down to genes anyway. some people will go to grave eating fats till they're defying 100 and being in perfect health while others will have a lower tolerance for such things. it makes much more sense to have people consult a medical professional on this subject first and then get an informed opinion on how high the risk is for them. banning stuff equally for everyone is just stupid.

i'm not worried. all my grandparents lived above 80 and had no health complications to speak of at all. and i remember they ate fatty foods till death.
