No shit!!!!! Being the son of a "Marines' Marine" I got ALL the cool weaponry and gear to play war with. My favorite (and way too dangerous) weapon was a working miniature mortar with EXPLODING SHELLS!!!! I'm not kidding. The shells had a hollowed metal nose that swung out and you crammed it full of caps. The launcher was spring loaded and...drop in the shell and...boing!!! Went a good 25-30 feet and it made a nice bang. If you loaded it with enough caps fire came out of the slots. Awesome toy. Didn't take long for it to be taken away forever. (((snicker))) Zen
those skip it's hurt when the big plastic chunk hits you or someone else, I can remember allot of times falling over trying to use one of those pogo balls, also those light brights used to get really hot if you played with them long enough.
I recall being allowed to run around lighting some fairly decent firecrackers (not those pissy little red things) when I was like 6 years old. They got banned a few years later tho coz of the amount of people burning themselves.
I remember having the Clackers .It was two hard-assed balls on a string and you would clack them together .I don't know how many times i got brained by one of those things .Oh and lawn darts were so cool .It is a wonder one of us wasn't impaled by one.Actually ,I think that is why they were taken off-market .Oh the good ol' days
I remember having a plastic spring loaded gun that shot out little plastic disks that would sting pretty good if hit with one. Also had one that shot plastic bb,s that would leave a mark.
oh, i guess my post didnt show up.. lol, i tried to comment this a sec ago. but lost connection.. this one you talking about?> I have this laying around here somewhere its orange though(no bullets;aka disk, very very old toy from the 80's.. I liked this toy gun, its firing disks were solid plastic. they got lost fast cause it did send them rapidly.. I remember finding a couple disk under the carpet a few years ago. dug the gun out,, lost the disk in a few days and i put it back in the junk box.. and the other your talking bout the bb gun was of the same manufacture at the time.. This is why the kids kill themselves with real gun today cause they do not know how to pretend.. Mr Rogers rolls over in grave.. lol..
Holy shit thats the one I was talking about but mine was blue. I would have to say I got mine in the mid 70's. Used to have wars with those things with my friends till we lost all the ammo.
it like took me a while to find pic of that toy.. it was for Star trek plastic disk gun http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tracer_gun
Hey thanks for the link, like a little trip down memory lane. They said that the disks dont hurt but I seem to remember them stinging pretty good, but then I was probably 6 or 7.
When my daughters were younger I bought them these little fairies that sat on a base and you could launch them they spun fast and furious across the room like little helicopters they were very dangerous, I think they eventually recalled them, they could really cause some serious damage.
That's about the same age my little brother was when I was shooting him with mine all day. ah ah ah ah ah Mine was the same color as in orison's pic.
I had this 'Rifleman' (from the TV series) plastic rifle and a 'Wild, Wild West' belt buckle derringer made by Mattel. They shot these little plastic bullets that snapped into a spring loaded brass casing approx. the same size as a .22. The spring was really strong, damn things stung like hell at close range... I could barely load them myself at 6 or 7yrs old. One day my uncle actually chambered a live .22 round in the rifle...amasingly it didn't blow up in his face when he pulled the trigger...not to mention he nearly shot my gramma! As I recall my dad "accidentally" ran over it with the car shortly thereafter. ZW

Man, I think I played with all these toys. Yes lawn darts were banned after some kid took one to the head and died. When I was a little kid the most dangerous toy I owned or at least the one I received the most injury from was my red Radio Flyer wagon. We used to ride them down a friends driveway that was steep and curved. I still have scars on both knees from all the times I ate it trying to make that curve. Good times, Good times.
I got n Argos chemistry kit for Christmas when I was like 9, and it came with about 40 little jars of chemical samples and stuff, and a paraffin burner, and most of the eperiments were just to light the parrafin lamp and heat up shit like iron filing, till the made sparks, which I suppose is kind of dangerous
Geez, back in the mid 60s when I was in elementary school,we had an assembly on the dangers of skateboards, and those old school clamp on roller skates. Bear in mind,in those days, kids that wore helmets and knee pads were kids that had physical/mental troubles, and didn't attend regular schools.
Anyone remember the bongo board? This toy was notorious for injuries. Shit, the playground equipment we had back then was considered lethal compared to this safe, boring crap kids play on nowadays. I'm glad I grew up in the 80s and 90s.
