I have no idea what you just said Mr. Cleese (are you feeling all right?). But God (if there is one) made humans unique. We can do whatever we want. Be omnivores, or herbivores if we want. Just not total carnivores like domestic cats. Because that would be unhealthy and even dangerous.

 

You know, decapitation is possibly painful. We don't know for sure, because no one has ever come back to tell us. And killing with barbituates would ruin the meat. So would killing with carbon monoxide. (Some people say killing with carbon dioxide ruins meat. But killing with carbon dioxide causes a suffocating feeling, making it too painful anyways.)

But inert gas asphyxiation is totally painless. But what does it do to the meat? Probably nothing I assume. But I'm not sure.

Speaking of those 1995 psychology classes. One of the text books said psychological animal experimentation was necessary. (They even had an experiment they mentioned in the book where two kittens were attached to a type of metal carousel. They were attached since they could walk to see what effect restricting their movement had on their neural development.) I was apalled right away. There is no need for animal psychological experiments at all. And they involve psychological abuse and torture plain and simple. That's their purpose.

Besides in psychology, field studies are good for studying how abuse and other tragic factors effect people psychologically. The same with physical illnesses, actually. Like I posted here earlier, really the only time animal experiments is necessary is for a new drug or therapy. Because how else would you know how this new thing works?

And, then the data they gather from that cures all serious illnesses, including those in animals.

There really is no source of calcium as good a milk and dairy. And little children have growing bones. Kale only has 90 mg of calcium per serving. That's about 10% of your daily requirement. You'd need 10 servings a day. Some vegan milk substitutes have calcium added. But that can lead to kidney stones. Each glass of milk has a third of you daily requirement. It's the best source, there is no subtitute.

Short answer: The ability to synthesize Taurine.

Cats cannot do this. Their food must be supplemented. Taurine is found in fresh muscle tissue. Dogs are detritovores, omnivores… they can scavenge dead things, eat plants, berries, bugs, eggs, fresh meat, grains, grasses, feces, and almost any protein source (they cannot digest woody material). Dogs make their own Taurine.

Cats kill a fresh creature, eat their fill and never come back to eat their left overs. They aren’t leaving you a tribute, they are just not cleaning up after themselves… it’s like leaving a half eaten pizza or partial bowl of cereal on the floor / porch / bed where you were eating when you're done. You were lazy, you did not leave it as a “tribute” to the human that does the cleaning!!! Hahahaaa if you do this, ask the cleaning human if they enjoyed the tribute?! Haha! I love they people call it a gift! as a veterinarian it cracks me up. If your kid or significant other did that same thing, you’d flip out on them! you’d tell them to clean that mess up!!! Now!! Hhaha but I digress.

Cats wipe out entire batches, clutches, litters and dens of neonatal animals once they find them. They eat until sated, nap, play, go back for another one… until there are none left. Bad long term strategy, but they don’t care, someone will leave Taurine supplemented food out and thus the outdoor feline population will never wax and wane with the natural food source, so there exists no checks and balances for feral / outdoor cat populations.

We use this hunting behavior to our advantage in shops, barns, & around the garden for rodent control. Unfortunately song birds and ground nesting birds are decimated along with the rodents, but the cats are useful in keeping the mice controlled in those scenarios.

It’s not that their digestive systems must have meat, it’s that their metabolic processes lack the ability to create certain amino acids.

All proteins that we’re aware of are made out of 23 amino acids. This is across the entirety of the animal kingdoms. 23 essential amino acids make every single protein that we’re aware of.

Cats can make 12 of them from basic materials. They eat stuff, they break that stuff down, and they can make 12 of the essential building blocks of their own body chemistry out of that stuff.

There are another 11 amino acids they can’t make, which they must extract them from their food. The absolute most important one is taurine, which a cat cannot produce (and is only found in sufficient quantities in animal flesh) which is required for adequate cardiovascular health and neural health. Without taurine, a cat will go blind. And then they’ll suffer congestive heart failure. Mittens does not want congestive heart failure; he wants chicken.

The other 10 amino acids are also important and a deficiency in any of them will cause long-term health problems. However, taurine is the one you absolutely need to worry about. Without it, a cat will literally go blind and then have a heart attack.

“Obligate carnivore” does not mean “can not eat vegetable matter.” It means “must eat meat.”

An obligate carnivore can eat grain…as long as it also eats meat.

Like I said, fur, circus animals and horseback riding are unnecessary, cruel and obsolete. And they can and should be banned right now. And circus animals and horseback riding is dangerous to the human too. Circus animals like lions and tigers can turn on the trainer at any moment and hurt or even kill him. And even elephants have been known to be unpredictable and violent when abused and provoked. Horseback riding can be dangerous if the animals refuses to cooperate with his rider. They say modern horse training techniques make breaking the animal in unnecessary. But some say that might be unwise and lead to dangerous behavior with the animals. Look at what happened to Christopher Reeve in 1995. And even experienced horse riding Lucy Lawless was injured in 1996 on the set of the Tonight Show. So why not just leave those animals alone for both our sakes?

And to repeat, meat we can slowly ban. For moral reasons. And like smoking, for health ones too.

 

They say shelter dogs need homes too. But why don't they just improve the conditions in those shelters? A human would know the difference, that he still didn't have a family or a forever home. A dog or cat wouldn't. Even a dog would not know the difference at all, and actually think he was lucky.

 

And, someone recently brought up dog sledding online. Dog sledding, yes. Thanks for bringing that up. I'll add that to my list. Fur, circus animals, horseback riding and dog sledding. The things we can and should ban right now. The "four", I can call them.

And I think meat will be gone in 50 years anyways. And, if you think animal testing is unnecessary (except with cosmetics, which we all agree I think), then why are you still getting chemotherapy and flu shots? And if you do stop doing that, please turn in the other direction when you cough.

 

And the fact hunting is stupid and unnecessary now is one more reason to ban guns altogether.

 

Pork is without question the most unhealthy meat there is. And pigs are such beautiful creatures. Vegans should focus on both those things if they want to win converts.

 

I might as well put this here rather than start a new thread. But, I was thinking. Vegans companies should sell faux meats. Which like faux furs never exist in nature. Maybe weird things too. Like blue chick'n (kind of like blue raspberry at 7-11), with get this. A minty flavor and stripes or polka dots on it. Because I say why eat something that even looks like meat. Especially when you don't have to.

Also you know, animals don't have to KNOW they are about to die. And like I've said before, mice track horrible diseases thru your house in their urine trails. So either you or them. You want to die, then?

I guess, you could put hormones in their bait instead of poison. They did that where I live once to cull the deer who were overpopulating. Contraception IOW. So they die off after one generation. Or maybe a more peaceful death? I spray all my flies in my house with alcohol. It's less messy and they die peacefully. And don't take this the wrong way, but some of them even seem to enjoy it. You could put alcohol or barbituates in their bait. Or, strange as it sounds, there are some diseases that aren't that bad a death. Especially if coma comes first.

All of the above: why not?

 

Veganism is the trend of the future, and I think it will be the law someday. But you won't get far yelling at or preaching to people. Moderates will get their foot in the door first, realize. Like President Clinton.

Up till him, no sitting president had supported any gay rights. But he supported limited gay rights at first. And now it the national norm. (Of course the Republicans refuse to accept that. Because they think a democracy is where the leaders tell the people what to think and do and not vice versa.)

 

And I wonder if there are any vegetarians left. Politically active ones I mean. Everyone I see online these days seems to be a radical vegan.
