i was at school today using the computer to look up a picture for my art project, and i searched Buddha and an error message came up telling me that i could not see the page due to a "banned word" in the search

i think this is fuckin stupid, i can't see a picture of a Buddha because it's an eastern religion, but at any will, i can turn the content filters off on the search engines and get pages of porn

even with the content filter off i'm still blocked form searching Buddha because it's a "banned word" i'm going to bring it up with one of the administrators on Tuesday (three day weekend)

 

wat was the word? maybe u could talk to whoever runs the library and get them to unban it...colleges r pretty chill like that, my old libs teacher used to unban porn and drug sites for us all the time, especially if it was for a class(porn)

No, it blocked the page because the actual page contained a blocked word; not the word you searched for.

In other words, it probably had - what the parental block program considers - a profanity on the page.

Blocking filters suck, use a web proxy: get it from www.peacefire.org install it on your home computer, type in your public IP address (as in if my IP was 1.2.3.4 I would type http://1.2.3.4/cgi-bin/nph-proxy.cgi) and you're done! peacefire.org has a good guide for setting it up.

 

Thats fucked up man. You in go there and tell them they unblock that shit or your high school is about to attract a lot of attention from the media. I bet you get your report or whatever it is done no problem after. Peace

i know how to use a proxy and i ended up having to use one to get a picture
but i don't see why Buddha would be blocked in the first place

The computers at my school do that constantly. If you look up "potato" you can get a blocked page in some instances. Sometimes when teachers tell us to research things, the pages are blocked.

Once I looked up Ron Jeremy and the computer literally yelled at me.
"BLOCKED! BLOCKED! BLOCKED! BLOCKED!"

Yes, those filters are something else. The one I must deal with marks every site in existance as porn. I remember I was once looking up an author from a reliable, educational site, and I was blocked for attempting to view "pornography."

I'm not arguing with; I'm just saying. Perhaps you've got a different program.

Porn sites can get around those filters, because some try not to leave on traces of it being a porn site in the files.
