Dont forget the jam bands of old. Santana, Pink Floyd, the Wailers, Big Brother, Jefferson Airplane. These folks used to jam with as much intenstity as the Grateful Dead. In my mind I believe Santana actually popularized improvisational music before the Dead made it big. Santana was the first real "jam band"

  7. I know alot of people may hate me for this, but I think Phish is a better jamband than the Grateful Dead

    New Monsoon (vote 2)
    Mountains of Venus
Kan'nal (still very local but that will change)
    Steve Kimock
Zilla/Zuvuya (Mike Travis project band)/ Jamie Janover

    Taarka
    Hamsa Lila
    Tha Muse Ment

    grassier edge

  13. hell yeah, you have to have some bluegrass on that list. but i'd still say wsp should be on the top 5 list and i think hookah has the potential to be on that list soon.
