Was making a list in my head about “greatest rock and roll singers who are now Dead or RIP ?” If had to pick say at least Five of your favorite dead rock and roll Musicians? Who would they be just right off the top of your head? Maybe here’s mine to get started: 1. John Lennon (The Beatles) 2. Jimi Hendrix 3. Jim Morrison (The Doors) 4. Dimebag Darrell (Pantera) 5. Elvis Presley I’d say just off the top of my head I’d mention these guys as being great dead musicians? What about you? Whod be your Top Five “RIP/Dead” Rock and Roll Musicians?
And they all died so young! Imagine if they had all lived till now. What music did we miss? Or did they just give us all they had to give in a short period? It was a sad year in high school when one by one these legends' lights went out. I remember coming to class in the morning only to find out another icon had passed on during the night. And no, it didn't show up in my twitter feed.... (I don't tweet like a twit)
I'm gonna go with the fact that it is hard to name just 5: David Bowie, Aretha Franklin, BB King, Loretta Lynn, Prince (how's that for an eclectic list?)
Warren Zevon, Eddie Money. Tom Petty, Lenoard Cohen, Roy Orbison, all deserve honorable mention. And many more If There.s a Rock and Roll Heaven, they got a hell o a band.
I like Skip's list but I'd throw in Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson of Canned Heat. Blind Owl is a member of the 27 club, was known as the best harmonica player on the planet, and taught legendary blues slide guitarist Son House how to play his own songs, which he had forgotten.
I think its about being at the point of being young and old, drugs tend to be involved and the body just has enough of mistreatment.
Here's my band: Jim Morrison, vocals Janis Joplin, vocals Jimi Hendrix, guitar, backing vocals Jack Bruce, bass, backing vocals Keith Emerson, keyboards Keith Moon, drums I'd actually rather see Robert Plant than Jim Morrison, but he's still alive.
Kathleen Ferrier died at the age of 41. Many people, myself included, regard her as the best contralto voice the word has ever seen. She made history, by giving a concert in New York to a packed house as the only singer. As you can see from this video, their were also no musicians or orchestra.
I find it hard to answer this question, since all my favourite composers and opera writers have been dead for many years. One thing that sprang to mind, was Rachmaninoff playing his own piano concerto. This was extremely rare. This recording was made in 1901.
David Bowie, Lou Reed, Tom Petty, John Lennon, Hank Williams. All of these wrote much of their music, which is what separates them legendary artists like Sinatra, Elvis and so on.
not to be rude, but isn’t this “Rock and Roll” forum? Wasn’t inquiring about dead opera artists?? Of course they have been dead for years? They’re musics from the 1760s??? How about Top 5 Dead rock and roll musicians from 1960s or later???
Oh dear, Skip will want to murder me AGAIN. The problem was that when I was invited to a Beatles concert in my school days, I called Rentokil and hid in the opera house.
You'd be very disappointed if you did see Plant today. I saw him years ago, and he was sad looking and singing. I'd rather see Morrison in his prime. Both musicians had great energy and charisma, once upon a time.
Yeah, quit trolling us. Sure Rachmaninoff was the rock and roller of YOUR generation! Roll over Beethoven and tell Tchaikovsky the news!
Here's some others that deserve mention: Jerry Lee Lewis Little Richard James Brown All these guys could bring down the house. James Brown at age 72! So Good!
Everyone in Rock & Roll Heaven's Band is in their prime! When Robert Plant dies he'll revert to his prime! Otherwise what's the point of an afterlife? Anyway that's my take on the situation!
