You think so? Well, it's a matter of personal taste, I guess, but I found that Dream Theater has alot of variety, actually, alot more than most bands. But if it's sound the same to your ears that's okay, it's a matter of personnal taste. Dream Theater is always an inspiration to me however.

Honestly I don't think that's an opinion. They're still making the same type of music in the same style. It's falsifiable.

I think people get too caught up in genres instead of just thinking that there are only two real genres, music you like, and music you don't like. I understand why there are genres; to describe to people what it sounds like, but some people just think too narrowly about genres.

Anyways, my favorite "progressive" band would either be Porcupine Tree or Opeth, they make what I consider great music!

For me, excuse me if this will sound a bit rough, for me they are acrobats, not musicians, they are struggling through the whole album to have the best place of the song, to be the virtuoso of the song.

I am a big progressive fan, since my child days, all my friend at school laughted at me because I was a Rush fan or because i was listening the music that their parents like.

Dream theater seems like that a bunch of circus acrobats, playing to be the faster, the more complex of the whole song. not my stile. Sometimes their music make me a headheache.

King Crimson! The one and only.
    After that... Maybe Pink Floyd.
    Camel

Some Krautrock bands, Ash Ra Temple, Eloy, Can.

    Weird prog Frank Zappa...

Finnish prog bands... Tasavallan Presidentti (kind of Jazz, rock prog)
    Wigwam
    Kingston Wall

Lots more of course, but those did come at first in to my mind...

King Crimson definitely. I don't really listen to Pink Floyd... but from what I've heard I just don't understand why they are considered prog. I guess I just haven't listened to enough of them.
