Just because I'm a stoner, doesn't mean I don't have a clear head. I haven't done any drugs in almost three weeks. I do like the music for what it is. I don't think Syd Barrett is trippy at all. Syd was an incredible songwriter. Just because someone does drugs, doesn't mean they appreciate art any less than someone who doesn't do drugs. You have some pretty whacked views there, fella.
I have listened to Pink Floyd and Syd Barret before I started doing drugs and I still listen to them and now I smoke weed and am getting into shrooms from time to time. I still love the music the same and have no clouded views. Pink Floyd is and will always be my favorite. I don't need drugs to know that.
I didn't say I hung out with him, I said I talked to him. You're a rather weak-minded individual, then..
This forum has severely weakened my desire to discuss music. People are such bitches about it... I guess that just goes to show how important music really is to our lives.
david gilmour thought it was crap. rick wright, and roger waters to a lesser degree, despises all the early stuff they did except the song echoes really... and i guess nick mason didn't really care..
Dark Side Of The Moon was on the charts from 1973 to 1987 or 1988, making it possibly the greatest album of all time.
that isnt entirely correct. it hopped off the charts and back on a good number of times. it wasnt on the billboard top 200 chart for all of those years.... back then, they kept track of those albums on the top 200 chart, even if they had fallen off...... but because DSOTM had racked over 700 weeks on the billboard charts, but only about 400 consecutively, they stopped letting albums leave the charts and come back on..... they wanted to give new albums a chance on the charts, instead of having to fight with classic ones..... they still keep track of high selling albums that fell off the charts years ago...... that is the "pop catalog chart" you often see DSOTM on there, and bob marley's greatest hits. DSOTM does hold the record for most weeks on the top 200. and there will probably never be another album that will top that.
i think it's interesting music to listen to but hardly amazing. the orchestra idea's quite good. if and summer 68 are badly recorded or mixed or something there's wrong. fat old sun i like. alan's psychedelic breakfast is fascinating i'm fairly sure he kills himself at the end.
I'm not making a statement that popularity = greatness! But Dark Side Of The Moon is both popular and great.
